About Me

I’m Allison, focus group moderator extraordinaire, runner, cook, crocheter, and beauty products aficionado. sunglasses

After living in New York City as a student and an ad exec, I moved back to a quiet town near the ocean in New England. I travel around the US moderating focus groups for a variety of clients including some of the best known beauty brands. Researching skincare, cosmetics, fragrance and nail care products has been the most fun, and it’s given me insight into what women look for when they choose beauty products and brands.

I’m a Beauty Contributor to Fabulous After 40, a Guru at Fabulous After 50, and a BlogHer Visionary.

I hope to be able to share what I’ve learned over the years with you, and I hope you’ll share your thoughts, ideas and opinions with me.

  1. Thanks, Sybille! Hope you’ll come back to visit the blog from time to time.

And thanks, Amy! I’ve been using Regenerist for about 5 years, and I really like it. It’ a thick cream, good for my dry skin. If you’re looking for something moisturizing but a little lighter, try the Regenerist night cream in the purple jar. Check out my earlier product reviews on Lierac and Nuance, too! Hope you’ll subscribe to the blog and check in from time to time :)

  2. What a great site, Allison. I like the combination of advice and quantitative research.
Regarding grapefruit scent positively affecting the perception of youth, I’ve always thought that the woman who wears a scent of, say, freshly baked bread or brownies who attract men like dogs attracted to their pack.

    • Pamela, I’m a friend of Gwen Holt, in the same book club. I sent her a segment on Studio 360/American Icons that i heard on NPR on Saturday afternoon. In response, she mentioned that she would like to go to The Mount and she sent me the link to your blogpost. I suggested The House of Mirth for our book club a few years ago, and only 2 out of 11 women read it lol!

Although I’m not a traditional romance reader (I love the romances gone wrong of Wharton, James, Elizabeth Bowen, Bronte etc the most), I love the idea and the writing on your blog…so I signed up!

Thank you for visiting my blog and your kind words. Hope you’ll visit from time to time ;)

  3. Allison, thanks for your comment on my blog – aboomerslifeafter50.com. You won the raffle prize of Herbes de Provence from Uzes, France. I tried to email you but it bounced back. Please send an email to me with your address where to send the herbs. Hope to see you at the BlogHer conference next week in Chicago.

    • Judi, so sorry for the inconvenience. I got your email but my darn email keeps sending out error messages and I don’t seem to be able to fix it, grrrr. I just replied to your email with my mailing address, and I hope it got to you with no problem. Thank you, and I look forward to cooking with the herbs and reminiscing about my trip to the south of France a million years ago. Merci beaucoup!

  4. Nice to meet you and to read your blog. I like some of your advice because you say same things as my mother used to say, so I am sure those are forever truth beauty tips shared between women :)

    • Thank you, Rebecca! So nice of you to say. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and for visiting my blog. Hope you’ll come back again :)

    • Thanks, Judy, your other comment on my recent blogpost went through! Thank you. Speaking of comment issues, I noticed you have commentluv on your site now, but it didn’t work because there’s no place to enter the website to pull the post. Something’s missing :)
