An older woman was standing in the cosmetics aisle of a local mass merchandiser frantically trying to find her favorite lipstick shade. We all know what that’s like — you find the perfect shade of lipstick or gloss, and when you go to buy more, it’s gone! She was searching for quite a while, and I noticed her take out her used-up tube and try to match the color to what was on-shelf from the brand. She came over and asked me which shade was closest to her old fave.
Her old standby — a bright blue-red — was really not a good color for her at this stage of life, and it was out-of-date as well. I tried to help her find something that was better suited to her coloring, her age and today’s trends. A softer, more neutral shade would have been a better choice. She thanked me but, not surprisingly, went back to her search for a bright blue-red.
So, my point is that it’s always a good idea to re-evaluate your look and give something new a try!

It’s unfortunate that older people are so resistant to change. They find comfort in products, routines, places and other things they know, in the face of a world that has become foreign to them as it has changed over time.
