As I’ve mentioned before, I am the serum queen!
I adore serums. I believe that they provide extra oomph to my moisturizer. I love to try new ones. About a month ago, I received MitoQ Power Antioxidant Rejuvenation Serum to try in exchange for an honest review.
Brief Background on MitoQ and Its Mitochondrial Research
MitoQ Ltd. is a New Zealand company that is focused on anti-aging through skincare products and supplements. They know that new science can help us age healthier and look younger, and who doesn’t want to feel better and have brighter, smoother skin?
Their research zeroed in on the mitochondria that exist in just about all of our cells. Mitochondria are organelles within our cells that do their work by converting glucose from the food we eat and from the air we breathe into energy to keep our organs functioning. They do it by coordinating cell communication, cell death, cell growth and cell differentiation. They use antioxidants to fight the effects of free radical damage and oxidation, important factors in keeping our skin healthy and helping us feel energetic and youthful.
I didn’t realize this, but from the age of 20 onward, our mitochondria begin to work less effectively. I thought we had more time than that, lol! The antioxidant CoQ10 within our mitochondria begins to disappear over time, and the effects of aging ensue: the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, lack of elasticity, dark spots, and dull skin tone.
Because CoQ10 was not able to pass through the double membrane in our cells, taking CoQ10 supplements was ineffective until the scientists at MitoQ discovered the way to make CoQ10 able to pass through the membrane and get into the mitochondria to help them do their work to fight free radicals and the effects of aging. So MitoQ is a revolutionary new form of CoQ10 that is able to get into the mitochondria and help them function like young mitochondria giving us more energy and brighter, smoother skin.
Here’s a quick video that explains it much better than I can:
MitoQ Power Antioxidant Rejuvenation Serum
In addition to helping mitochondria return to optimal functioning and protecting skin cells from free radicals and oxidation, MitoQ also supports collagen and elastin production that as we know play important roles in maintaining healthy, youthful skin. Its patented technology has been clinically shown to be an effective anti-wrinkle product that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, makes skin denser and firmer, and helps fade age spots. Yes!
Not only is MitoQ Ltd. research and development-oriented, but they test the efficacy of their products via clinical trials. In fact, MitoQ reports the results of an independent study conducted at The London Dermatology Centre on men and women, age 32-48, who used MitoQ for 8 weeks. Visia Complexion Analysis was done prior to and after 8 weeks of MitoQ use. From the analyses, 69% of patients had a reduction in redness, 62% had improved skin texture and a reduction in wrinkles, and 46% of patients had a measurable reduction in dark spots. Take a look at this quick video to learn more about the clinical trials.
My Results So Far
I’ve been using MitoQ Power Antioxidant Rejuvenation Serum for a little under a month, and I love it. It gives my skin a velvety feeling (no, it doesn’t have silicone in it!) not only upon application but pretty much all the time. Since it’s Saturday and I’m being lazy, I haven’t washed my face and reapplied my skincare products since last night. Though it’s early afternoon, my face still feels as velvety and soft as it did last night after I applied. Love that! Over the three weeks of use so far, my skin feels soft, less sensitive and fragile, and definitely less dry. The folks at MitoQ say that other skin benefits like reduction in lines and wrinkles and lightened age spots begin to be seen after 6 weeks of use, so I’m eager to see those key benefits start to take place over the next few weeks!
MitoQ comes in slim, elegant plastic rectangular pump packaging to ensure freshness and ingredient efficacy. The bottle has a cool ombre effect that lets you see the tube containing the product inside. One pump of serum covers my face, and I do another half pump to apply the serum to my neck. The serum itself is pale yellow, lightweight but not runny. Here’s what one full pump looks like:
It’s amazing how far that one pump of serum goes! Plus it absorbs quickly and easily. There’s virtually no waiting time to apply my moisturizer like there can be with other liquid-y serums. I use it twice a day, morning and evening as part of my skincare ritual. MitoQ says that the serum can be used at night as both a serum and a moisturizer which could be a money-saver, but I have nighttime moisturizers that I like so I have continued with my normal regimen.
MitoQ has a hypoallergenic formula, and it is suitable for all skin types. It’s been so soothing for my dry, sensitive skin. I looked through many of the consumer reviews on the MitoQ website, and women whose skin is typically subject to breakouts reported that they had no problem with breakouts with MitoQ.
The bottle of MitoQ contains 1.7 fl. oz./50 ml, an 8-10 week supply of serum. I need so little each time that I think my bottle will last me longer than a couple of months. MitoQ Power Antioxidant Rejuvenating Serum is priced at $119 or a money-saving twin pack for $219. But MitoQ Ltd. has offered a special price for my readers: 20% off using the code FAB20!
MitoQ Supplements
MitoQ Ltd. also makes supplements that work from the inside out to help increase energy levels and help skin look more youthful. Used in conjunction with the Antioxidant Serum, they are said to help produce results faster. And who couldn’t use more energy?

This sounds great, I think I need to try it out!
I think you’d enjoy it. My skin is loving it!
This serum sounds so luxurious! I love it when companies create skincare based on actual science 🙂
I agree. They certainly did a lot of research and made a huge investment to develop this form of CoQ10 that can pass through the cell wall
I love your latest serum review and you are right serums do give your face/eye/body that extra “power” in the creams!! I little pricey for me right now but I can’t wait to try soon!

Definitely pricey even with the discount! I was lucky to get to try it out.
I am such a serum fanatic, and this one sounds very intriguing to me! I’m not surprised that our mitochondria begin to work less effectively after the age of 20, but I can’t say that I’m happy about it!

Me, too, Helen. I didn’t realize that the downward slide starting so early!
I’d love to have velvety skin instead of acne craters and hills 🙁 Wow, I thought cellular repair slowed down only after 30. I should have started serums at 20 – now I’ve already lost a few years 🙁

I’m sure you’ll make up for lost time, lol, Renu!
This sounds like fascinating stuff! I’d love to try it. I’m interested to see how it worked for you, further down the road. I’ll keep my peepers peeled. 😀

They sent me two bottles of MitoQ, and I intend to keep at it and use up both and see what happens. They had also offered me the CoQ10 supplements that are supposed to boost energy levels as well as do systemically what the serum is trying to do topically. But I am taking some medication and I was concerned about adding supplements to the mix without talking to my doctor who’s impossible to get a hold of unless it’s an emergency so I passed. Now I’m thinking I may have missed out.
I love that they use clinical trials to develop and test this technology. Very science.

Yes, they are truly research oriented. They used research to come up with a better CoQ10 that is actually able to get through the cell wall to the mitochondria which is pretty cool. And it is good that they had an independent clinic/lab n London conduct the clinical trials to test it. So many companies just develop “me too” products that are based on pre-existing research often that other companies or labs came up with rather than doing their own thing. I’m quite impressed with this
I love when products are backed by research, it makes me think that I’m spending my money wisely on something that will actually work! This product sounds lovely, and the packing is SO cute!
This company really is committed to conducting original research rather than copying others’ products, and I like that too! The packaging is really different looking. The smokey ombre is very attractive.
I peaked a long time ago. Waah! Serums are my favorite part of skincare and this sounds excellent. I take CoQ10 supplements so I hope those are still effective too.
That’s hysterical, Marcia. Me, too! They offered me the MitoQ Advanced CoQ10 supplements to take while trying out the serum, but I’m taking some medications that made me nervous about using yet another supplement without checking in with my doctor who is impossible to get a hold of, so I passed on them. Their CoQ10 is supposed to be able to get through the cell wall to get into the mitochondria and the result is supposed to be feeling more energetic as well as younger-looking skin. Have you been pleased with the supplements you’ve been taking?
This serum sounds amazing!

Yes to velvety skin!
This is a new brand for me, but wow, does it ever sound luxurious! I really like that packaging too.
Yes, it’s a new brand for me, too, from New Zealand! And the packaging is quite distinctive to fit the serum! It’s based on such interesting science. I have great expectations going forward!
