At the lovely Easter lunch we attended on Sunday, my cousin gave me a gift. Woohoo! Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint, a cute lip tint that’s part of Tarte’s High Performance Naturals line. It looks like a big fat crayon, one of the new-ish trends in makeup. As the color gets used up, you just dial up a little more.
This lippie also fits with the multi-tasking trend that makeup, skincare and personal care products are into these days. And that’s good for us, right? Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint provides long lasting color like a lip stain, is soothing with peppermint oil like a lip balm, and it goes on shiny like a lipgloss but without the stickiness.
My cousin gave me “lust”, a very wearable shade of – I’d call it “brick red” (Tarte calls it “red”) that goes well with my coloring: light skin, red hair. Here’s the “lust” swatch:
She’s wearing the Tarte lip tint in “enchanting”, a raspberry red that Tarte calls “rose”, for herself that goes well with her light skin and dark brown, almost black hair.
Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint comes in 5 additional shades, each with a different name evocative of the color:
- spirited: orange-red
- moody: deep berry
- amused: bright pink
- joy: peach
- charmed: light pink.
The tubes are the same color as the lip tint to help you get an idea of the shade.
The two tubes, enchanted and lust, look kinda similar to me in the photo and online, but the shades are actually very different. Though it’s often easier to buy online, Tarte Lipsurgence may be better to buy in person.
Importantly, how the color looks on you will depend on the natural color of your lips. While that’s true of any lipstick, it’s especially true in this case because the lip tint is sheer color. So, you want to choose the right color for you. Actually, my cousin bought both shades for herself, but when she tried it on, “lust” didn’t work for her. So I was the lucky recipient!
When applying the Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint, make sure your lips are exfoliated so it doesn’t get hung up on flakey skin. Or apply a lip primer first. If your lips are smooth, it glides right on. You immediately feel the slight tingle of the peppermint oil, and it smells fresh. It feels glossy and quenching.
The color is sheer and natural-looking. When I wear it, it looks like my own lip color enhanced. For me, the sheer color is a great everyday look, and it feels good on my dry lips.
Unfortunately, if you eat or drink, it’s essentially gone…although a little of the color stays behind. So carry the tube with you to reapply. If I don’t eat or drink, the glossiness lasts for about a couple of hours, but the “tint” stays much longer.
Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint is pricey: $24 for 0.1 oz., so I’m very grateful to Lois for the generous gift. It’s made in the U.S. She bought it online at beauty.com, but it’s widely available in stores at Sephora, Ulta and department stores that carry Tarte. Online in addition to beauty.com, you can find it at tartecosmetics.com, Amazon, and a million other sites.
If you’re a Tarte fan and were planning to buy some products, you can get a free LipSurgence Lip Tint today only, from tartecosmetics.com. I just noticed it.
