Although I love summer and summer makeup, the shades of fall and holiday makeup are so rich and enticing. Mirabella Beauty’s new collection for Holiday 2016 fits that description to a T.
I was sent three pressed powder eyeshadows and a matte red lipstick to try out. The theme, Masquerade, fits the shades very well. It makes me think of the winter masquerades in Venice, where the costumes are often crafted from rich jewel-toned fabrics.
Masquerade Eye Lights
The eyeshadows are called Eye Lights. Mirabella describes them as “luxury Prismatech performance shadow that delivers bold payoff”. They are made from high powered mineral pigments. The three shades, priced at $27 each, are:
- Gilt: champagne gold
- Charade: teal
- Mystery: grape.
Eye Lights are stunning. First, they are adorable inch and a half square compacts, each with its own mirror. I opened each one and almost gasped because they’re so lovely. The quilted embossing is gorgeous.
I like the fact that they’re singles rather than a palette or trio. The shades are very rich and have a subtle metallic finish, and though you can wear the three shades together for a va-va-va-voom look, I most likely won’t wear them all at once.
Gilt, the champagne gold, is just so amazingly wearable. Because it’s a light champagne rather than a yellow gold, it can easily be worn during the day as well as at night. I just love this one because it’s a gussied up neutral IMHO. So far, I’ve worn Gilt on its own, I’ve worn Gilt on top of a deep purple cream shadow to lighten it up toward the inner part of the eye, and I’ve worn Gilt on the lid with Charade in the V. As you can tell, I’m loving Gilt.
I always wear eye shadow over primer because I have red, dry eyelids. So I wore these over primer, and they stayed bright with no creasing and lasted till I removed them, almost 12 hours later.
Next, I’m going to devise a purple plan for Mystery, the gorgeous grape, pairing it with other matte purples and lavenders.
Here are finger and regular swatches. They are amazingly pigmented!

Modern Matte Lipstick
In addition to Eye Lights, I received Modern Matte Lipstick in Crimson, price $26. Because I have dry lips, I’m sometimes concerned about wearing mattes. But right from the start, Mirabella Modern Matte Lipstick was so easy to apply – full coverage in one swipe. It’s so comfortable to wear: it didn’t dry my lips at all. Plus it doesn’t feather. In fact, it’s one of the few reds that I don’t need to wear a lipliner with. Oh, that’s so convenient! It’s one of the best matte formulas I’ve tried.
Crimson is a true red that would flatter any skin tone. I’ve been wearing it with Gilt and Charade Eye Lights as well as on its own with other makeup in my stash. In fact, it’s my favorite matte red.
My only small complaint about the lipstick is the case. The top is transparent plastic with the name of the lipstick, and it’s not quite up to the beauty of the lipstick itself. I just went to the Mirabella Beauty website, and it shows a much more sophisticated and attractive package. Maybe I received the “bloggers’ version”, lol!
