Orange is really hot this summer. As a redhead, I can definitely wear orange. And coral is one of my all-time favorite shades. Since we’re into the heart of summer now, and some bloggers are already showing looks for fall, I figured I’d better get going and do a look-of-the-day featuring orange.
While I was in San Francisco for work, I found an hour or so before my focus groups to visit my favorite retail establishments, at least the ones between Union Square and the Ferry Building. I have such good luck in the Clearance section of Anthropologie on Market Street. I found an orange and off-white ikat print pleated top that goes so well with a variety of jeans: navy, white and with the peach-colored jeans I bought in Portland OR last year.
I was dying to get an orange lipstick, but because I wasn’t sure I’d wear it all that often, I didn’t want to spend a lot. I heard good things about NYX Matte Lipstick, and I figured this was a good opportunity to try it. I picked up NYX Indie Flick MLS05, an orange-red shade, at CVS during one of the 25% off coupon events plus the Extrabucks I had, so it cost me about $3. Good deal!
I really love this lippie. It goes on smoothly, and it is not at all drying like many matte lipsticks can be. I honestly can’t say how long it lasts because I’ve had a meal each time I’ve worn it, and after eating it’s gone. I don’t have a problem reapplying.
Next up is my orange-coral mani. I used three polishes as well as a topper on my accent nail for this look. I alternated a different polish on each nail and repeated a shade when necessary. I think it’s a bright, fun look but not too out there. I think even with the different shades of orange, it’s still subtle enough for work. I used three of the new Milani Color Statement Nail Polishes (review of the line coming soon). Milani Color Statement:
- Corrupted Coral (the pinkest coral)
- Mango Tango (the deepest orange)
- Quick Drying Topcoat.
I also used Milani Sugar Rush topper that’s part of their old line on my accent nail for a little bling and to add to the fun look. The third orange shade is Zoya Elode. I bought this polish during a recent buy 3 Zoya polishes for $12 promo, and I hadn’t had a chance to use it. I was actually surprised to see that Elode isn’t a cream, it’s a buildable sheer.
I added a pair of pale peach, chalcedony chandelier earrings that I bought several years ago at my favorite jewelry store in New York, Fragments, on Greene St. in Soho. If you haven’t been there, you must go. They have a fabulous selection of high-end designer jewelry as well as more affordable semi-precious stone jewelry.
And I wore my new Vince Camuto Effel sandals from Nordstrom that I reviewed a couple of weeks ago. I love them, and they are still so comfortable to walk in. 😀
Finally, I brought along my orange Erika Ray-Bans. They’re pretty cool looking with rubberized frame, wire sides and gradient lenses. I’m still getting used to the over-size lenses that are back in style. Everything that goes around comes around 😎
So what do you think about orange? Do you wear orange?
