During a recent trip to Ulta, I noticed a “Buy One, Get One for 50% off” at the NYX display. NYX is a brand of affordable Korean cosmetics that the young saleswoman told me were similar to Urban Decay in terms of colors and products. What a find!
I was looking for eye pencils in two specific colors: grey and teal. NYX had both.
The dark grey called Charcoal is a true charcoal (could be described as “soft black”) and the teal, a blue/green/grey mix is called Siren.
What’s amazing and also strange is that those are the same names as the Urban Decay colors. Not sure how they can do that, but the Siren eye pencil from NYX matches the Urban Decay liquid liner I bought that’s also called Siren. Since I still have a bit of a hard time with liquid liner, I can make a line with the NYX Siren pencil and go over it with the Urban Decay Siren liquid liner.
NYX Slim Eye Pencils come in 30 different matte shades plus 10 colors with glitter. They have almost every shade you might be looking for. The price for one NYX eye pencil was $3.49 for a 0.04 oz, 5 inch pencil and the second was 50% off. How could I go wrong? I noticed that the eye pencils were made in Germany. The country that makes Mercedes, BMWs and high end audio equipment must make good everything, right?
The pencil goes on easily, maybe not quite as easily as the $20 pencils, but still very easy to apply. It’s creamy and highly pigmented. I’m totally satisfied.
Here’s a rather creepy photo of me wearing the Siren liner.
Here are the color swatches:
NYX is also available at Amazon and at Nordstrom. I saw a very nice palette of nude eyeshadows from NYX for $7 at Nordstrom.com as well as some other inexpensively-priced face and eye palettes. Definitely worth a look.
And just a reminder, the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty ends on March 31, 2013. On Friday March 29, they are offering Too Faced Natural Face Palette for $22, regular price $39, as part of the promotion.
BTW, if you’re a beauty products lover, consider joining Ulta’s frequent purchaser program. I just received a coupon for 20% off my entire purchase, and I believe I saved about $15 on my most recent purchases. In addition, Ulta has lots of starter or trial kits that offer deluxe size products for many prestige brands, a great way to try out a new brand or new products without spending a lot of money.
