It’s been a hectic week, but Jeff and I made it to Portland, Maine for the weekend. I have’t been to Portland since I was a teen, and boy, has it changed! We got here just before sunset so we haven’t had a chance to see much in the dark. In fact, I wish I had some photos to share but all I’ve got so far is a few snaps of our gas fireplace at the Residence Inn at Scarborough 😉
Portland ME is known as a foodie city, and the dinner we had tonight at David’s Restaurant (New American cuisine) at Monument Square was a fabulous introduction to the city’s foodie fare. Yum. Jeff had an exotic mushroom pizza that was made with cashew ricotta – vegan, and it was absolutely incredible. I had sage & walnut crusted salmon with port currant glaze and maple sweet potatoes mashed and spinach. It was a wow.
Saturday/today, we plan to go to the Portland Museum of Art, the reason for the trip. I don’t think there’s a special exhibit that we want to see, but they have a huge collection of Winslow Homer that I want to see as well as the rest of the permanent collection. Also, I want to see the waterfront area, and at some point, the Portland Light.
So far, Portland seems like a very friendly, young, cool city. A rabbit (a person dressed as a rabbit) on a bicycle with a boombox rode past us downtown as we walked to the restaurant. There were lots of skateboarders doing their thing in Monument Square on Friday night. I’m curious to see what Saturday will bring!
