Jewel tones are in for Fall 2014. I remember jewel tones in the 1980s, but today’s jewel tones capture more of the shimmering qualities of the gems themselves. So much more beautiful.
Milani has jumped on the bandwagon and is introducing the limited edition Bedazzled collection of gel eyeliners, nail lacquers and lipsticks with gemstone names and shimmering shades. They will be sold in CVS and Walgreens, but they just became available on the Milani website. If you’re lucky enough to see them in the store, grab ’em while you can, and if not, get ’em online.
I was fortunate to receive the three Constellation Gel Eyeliners and one of the nail polish shades.
Constellation Gel Eyeliners
The three shades are:
- Enchanted Lapis 01
- Enchanted Black Opal 02
- Enchanted Emerald 03
The benefits that Milani listed on the packaging are:
- long wearing
- precision brush applicator.
Each eyeliner comes in a fairly large pot (0.14 oz./4g) with the trademark Milani gold round packaging, making it just a bit too large to carry around in a makeup bag. Since I mostly apply eyeliner at home, that shouldn’t be an issue.
A small brush comes with it. Usually the brush or applicator that comes with makeup is a cheap throwaway, but this one is actually decent. Instead of using my own brushes, I’ve used this one, and I like it. However, I will also use my own slant brush for making a thinner line.
Each shade is quite stunning, both in the pot and on the eyelid. Each gel eyeliner is made up of a variety of colors with subtle glitter. So pretty!
Here are swatches:
Although the lovely colors on top appear to be sprayed on and go away as I use the liner, the glitter and flash is still there when I apply it. Here’s how Enchanted Lapis looks:
The gel eyeliner is buttery and fairly easy to apply even for eyeliner-challenged women like me. Don’t pick too much up on the brush because there can be some fallout.
You can also blend out the eyeliner, and use it as eyeshadow. Sweet.
Here are the ingredients for one of the shades and Milani’s instructions:
Color Statement Nail Lacquer: Limited Edition Shades
I received one of the three new nail lacquer shades. I got Enchanted Garnet, and it is a true garnet shade: deep red with brown that gleams in the sunshine. It’s the exact shade of the garnet earrings I bought in Florence years ago. I love the color.
I put it on a few nights ago. This shade benefits from two coats, otherwise it doesn’t go on evenly. It dries quickly. I was in a rush, and I didn’t put on topcoat. That was a mistake. After three days, I noticed some tip wear, whereas after applying a topcoat on shades from the new permanent collection, I got almost a week of wear.
The other two lacquer shades are Enchanted Emerald and Enchanted Sapphire. I just saw them at my neighborhood CVS, and they look pretty. But judging just from looking at the bottles, Garnet seems to me to be the standout. Now, the Bedazzled polishes are available on the Milani website, too.
Final Thoughts and Info
Unfortunately, I don’t know the pricing on these new products. And I don’t know the exact timing of when you can expect to see them in CVS and Walgreens stores near you. Like all limited editions, some stores get them and others don’t, so you have to hunt, or buy them on the Milani website.
The Bedazzled collection also includes three limited edition matte lipsticks in jewel tones: Enchanted Topaz (nude), Amethyst (a light-medium purple), and Ruby, a wine shade that I just bought today at CVS. I’ll review it separately soon.
I really love the Milani limited edition products I’ve tried so far because the colors are just so dang gorgeous! If you love jewel tones and subtle bling, I’d keep my eyes open for these beauties 🙂Click here for reuse options!
