Yesterday, my friend Sue asked me via email a question about what to do about her cracked fingertips. I emailed her back with a number of suggestions. In a follow-up email, she suggested that I add a place to the blog to ask beauty-related questions. I think that’s a terrific idea!
I looked into different ways of doing that. A blogger that I admire, Beautyholics Anonymous, has what she calls “Bloggie Wednesdays”, a weekly post when visitors can post any questions they want about beauty or blogging. Another way would be to add a forum to the blog. In a forum, visitors can post a question by starting a “thread” (ie a new topic) and others can answer or comment on the question. One of the benefits of a forum is that it allows you to search the topics and see if a question you have has already been asked and answered. On the downside, you usually have to register to start a new thread or to post a comment. At this point, I want to be sure that it’s easy to participate.
My solution for now was to add a page called Beauty Q&A. You can find it by going to the black heading toward the top of the blog that lists the different sections of Never Say Die Beauty. Click on Beauty Q&A and use the Comment section to post your question. Or feel free to post an answer or comment on someone else’s question.
Let’s see if this method works. If not, I’ll try something else. And I’m open to suggestions from you, too.
Ask away!!

So glad you decided to add this feature! I was going to ask you to do the same thing.
Thanks Kim! Great minds think alike! Hope you’ll post some questions from time to time 🙂
OK, here’s one that has plagued me for a long time: I need a good anti-aging moisturizer for the daytime. I’ve tried many–some just sit on my skin and look greasy, some are absorbed but don’t seem to moisturize much, some make my primer ball up when I put it on top of the moisturizer. I’ve tried drugstore brands and more expensive types. Someone, please, recommend something for over-50 skin!! Thanks, Kim
Kim, what a drag! It’s possible that the chemicals in the daytime moisturizers are giving you a hard time. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide (the natural, physical barrier-type SPF, though potentially “safer”, can be heavy, may interfere with your primer, and may give you that “sitting on the skin” feeling. Try to avoid daytime moisturizers with Oxybenone but I hear that Avobenone is safe for skin. Sometimes when I wear foundation with SPF, I use a moisturizer without SPF.
That said, I have a couple of daytime moisturizers that I use and like. But I have very dry skin, and I prefer moisturizers in a jar (I always wash my hands before putting my fingers in the jar, lol). I wrote a review of Salma Hayek’s Nuance Daytime Moisturizer SPF30 a couple of months ago (see Product Spotlight), and I am a devoted fan! Recently, I looked up other users’ reviews of the product, and just about all of them liked it a lot. Also a couple of months ago, I wrote a Brand Spotlight on Lierac, a French pharmacy brand sold in the big CVS stores in a separate area. Take a look at their moisturizers next time you’re in the big CVS in North Beverly. They have testers so you can try the products. I use their Hydration Balm, a pink gel, that is meant for extremely dry skin. I doesn’t have SPF in it, but I mention it because it’s a gel. The gel form is so light and absorbs so well, I just love it. I noticed that Olay has two gel moisturizers in one of their sub-brands that I had never seen before (I don’t know whether they have SPF). I’ll poke around and see if I can find any more gels, hopefully with SPF, that I can suggest. And next time I buy more Nuance Daytime, I’ll take some off the top and give you a sample to try!
