A few months ago, I bought the Tarte CC Matte Be Mattenificent Shadow Palette (reviewed here) on the Tarte website. As usual, I got a deal. I bought it at 20% off for signing up for their email list. In order to get free shipping, I had to spend a certain amount. To get to that level, I needed to add something else.
I’ve been using drugstore lash curlers for ever, like, always. And all my life, my lashes have resisted curling and have maintained their stick straight stance. I decided to reach the free shipping threshold by adding in the Tarte Picture Perfect Eyelash Curler that came with a sample of Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara.
After tossing my old Revlon curler and replacing it with the Tarte curler, I am more than pleased with the results. It’s comfortable to use (they say it’s ergonomically designed), and it’s easy to hold because of the grippers on the handles. I’ve never pinched my eyelid like I used to with my drugstore curlers. It’s designed to allow you to crimp with just the right amount of pressure. In the old days, I could over-crimp and end up with a crease in my lashes.
Best of all, the Tarte curler actually curls my straight lashes! Ah-maz-ing.
Since buying the Tarte lash curler, I take more time with the curling process. I start at the roots, crimp the curler around my lashes near the root, and hold it for about 8 seconds. Then I move to the middle of the lashes, crimp and hold for about 8 seconds, and repeat near the tips but usually for a little less time, about 5 seconds. My lashes are curled! (If your lashes are even more difficult than mine, you may want to try heating the curling strip with your hairdryer. Make sure you test the heated curler on your hand before you put it near your face to be sure you don’t burn yourself!)
I used up the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara, and it was a good mascara. Toward the end of the sample, it started to clump a bit but prior to that, it was a good formula with a relatively normal brush with lots of bristles.
I have a million different mascaras, but I find myself returning to L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara (reviewed here).
I still dislike the wand that’s narrow on one end and wide on the other end like a wing.
It works fine when using it with my left hand (I’m a lefty) on my left eye. But when I have to switch it around in the other direction for my right eye, I can’t make it work as I try to manipulate it with my left hand. So I’ve taken to not switching it around but just using the tip which defeats the whole purpose of the wand design. But I love the formula. What I really need to do is use a different wand. At any rate, my lashes with the Tarte curler and the L’Oreal mascara keep their curl until I remove my mascara at the end of the day. My lashes do keep the curl with other mascaras too, but this combo is just perfection for me.
Tarte is available on the Tarte website, at Sephora, Ulta, Amazon, Macy’s, and beauty.com. The regular price of the Tarte Picture Perfect Lash Curler and the travel size Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara is $17, and it includes two silicone curling strips (I think). Tarte is cruelty-free.

I use both of those mascaras too. I really like them.
I’m glad you do too, Laura. Do you like the wand with the L’Oreal Butterfly mascara? Any tricks you could share with me to handle it better on my right eye with my left hand???
Wow, I love the before and after shots, your lashes look amazing, this curler seriously works!

It seriously works well for me, Judy!
I will have to try this. My lashes want to be straight.

I remember that you always say that you have super-straight lashes, Leticia. I’ve had really good luck with this curler, and nothing ever worked well at all for me in the past.
OOohhh… I think I want that lash curler. I like that it looks easy to use. And I do love both of those mascaras. Great post girl!!!
Thanks, Jamie! I am a Tarte curler convert 😉
The Tarte Curler is cute

Wow, the result is fantastic! I wish this brand were available here too.

I’m sorry it’s not, Gio. I’ve had such good results with it.
That made a great difference!
Yes, it does! Finally something that works for my super-straight lashes!
Looks like a great curler and I’ll have to try that mascara sometime as well. Great before and after shot!
Thanks, Leigh! They’re all worth a look
Wow, your lashes look gorgeous! The curler sounds wonderful! <3

Shipra, I was so excited to discover a lash curler that actually works for me!
This result looks amazing!
Thanks, Leelo!
I like TARTE Mascara, I also need to start using my eyelash curler a bit more.

I liked the Tarte Lights Camera Lashes too, Melody. i’m actually envious that you don’t need to use your curler all the time 😉
Nice lashes!
Thanks, Aleya!
That is totally an awesome combo for you! I got a curler from Lorac in a gift set and it works alright. I saw this one online after receiving that though and thought, “well drat!” LOL
I hope Tarte will still have this come holiday time, or maybe they’ll put it in a new gift set and I can pick it up this winter. 🙂
Most likely they will! But if the Lorac curler works for you, no need to switch. i was just having a terrible time of it with my drugstore curlers. BTW, Ulta is just sending out their 10% off prestige/20% off everything else coupons if there’s an Ulta near you 😉
I just got the butterfly mascara, I’m excited to use it! I can never find myself splurging on a curler because I get great ones from the dollar store.

Curious to see what you think about the L’Oreal Butterfly Mascara, Miranda. I wish the dollar store lash curlers would work for me. But hopefully this Tarte curler will last for ages and ages!
I don’t usually try out the newest mascara and I would probably also dislike the wand..
L’Oreal Butterfly Mascara has been out for more than 6 months at this point, but that wand is not for everyone, Betzy. And I love the formula, but hate the wand!
For the longest time I thought all eyelash curlers were the same…but they aren’t! So great when you find your perfect match!
So did I, Stephanie! I was surprised that this one really is better than my Revlon and Maybelline lash curlers. Finally, I have curly lashes!
I have this exact set and I love love it!
So glad that you love it, too, Eugenia!
This lash curler looks sooooo pretty, and I love how long it makes your lashes look!
It is a much better looking curler than my Revlon and Maybelline were. And thank you, I have blonde eyelashes so wearing any mascara makes a big difference for me 😉
The mascara brush is kind of weirding me out. I guess you have to try it before you can know if you will like it or not.

hahaha, yes it is still weirding me out, Kimmi! I just can’t get the hang of it for my right eye!
That lash curler from tarte looks great. Glad you are getting good results!!! 🙂
Me, too, Pammy. Finally curly lashes!
I LOVE a good eyelash curler!!
Ange recently posted…L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Foundation Review
I guess I never knew what a good lash curler was, Ange! This has made such a difference for me 🙂
The before/after is amazing! Curlers never make a difference on me. LMdB made a very very slight difference but I’m apparently the only one who noticed LMAO so maybe it didn’t and I just wanted it to.

I have this eyelash curler and like it a lot.

I might have to try out one of the Tarte mascaras, though the waterproof version for my lashes!
I haven’t tried the waterproof Tarte mascaras so let me know what you think if you try them, Mai
What a difference the mascara makes for you. Your lashes look clear! I don’t usually bother with curling my lashes, but you never know. I never used to worry about my brows, either, and now I’m messing with them, too!
Nidia – Lit From Within recently posted…TRI a little Laser Light Show!
Yes, Nidia, I have long blonde eyelashes so without mascara I look like I don’t have any eyelashes! I have to curl mine because they are stick straight. When I wear glasses, they hit the glass. If you have naturally curly lashes or if they curl automatically with mascara, why bother curling them!
Looks fantastic. I am getting very excited for their fall launches!
Justina recently posted…What Beauty Means to Me & VIP Beauty Treatment Giveaway!
Thanks for the head’s up, Justina. I’ll have to see what Tarte is up to for the fall.
I like this curler; the only thing that’s a lil disappointing is that the gold finish tarnished after 2 months.
I would return it, Kathryne! After 6 months, mine still looks like new.
It did a great job on you!
I quite pleased with the results, Kendra!
love the tarte lash curler!
Glad you like it, too, Jess 🙂
Curling lashes before mascara is such a game changer!

Absolutely, Norah!
I still use my ELF eyelash curlers… they are only a buck or so and have been loving them. I like how it looks though and your before and after look great.
Honey, if you have something that works for you, that’s all you need. I wish an inexpensive elf curler would work for me!
Wow great before and after shots!
Thanks, Lisa!
I’m glad to see a review on a good eyelash curler. It really is worth it to spend a little extra money to get a good one. And I agree 100% on the L’Oreal Butterfly mascara – love the formula, not a fan of the wand. I think if they made it wing out on opposite ends, that would solve the problem because I use the same hand to apply my mascara and I don’t turn the wand around either (guess I’m not that coordinated!).
I agree, Dawn, on that L’Oreal Butterfly wand. Did they test it before they launched it, lol?
Your lashes look wonderful!

Thank you, April! Finally a curl 🙂
I bought this set a while ago and I love the mascara but I have issues with the curler. it curls well but the replacement pad they included doesn’t fit in the curler! I don’t know if it’s just a mistake or what but it’s annoying to have to dig for the pad in my makeup bag all the time
Natalye recently posted…Urban Decay: All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray Review
Natalye, I’m a really big complainer. I hate to admit it, but I am. If I buy something that doesn’t work, I bring it back no matter how trivial. My Tarte Lash Curler works very well, and though the pad can be a tiny bit of a challenge to get in the groove initially, both of the pads I received went in with only a bit of a squeeze and work perfectly. For $17, I would’ve been back at the store with the lash curler asking for another one that worked or for a refund!
