I’ve been dying to try Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks for ages and ages. Every time I decide to take the plunge, something comes up – usually a bill that I forgot about. So I was thrilled when I received a package from YSL Beauty and Influenster with two stunning lipsticks from the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Satin Radiance line.
I was curious about what makes the Rouge Pur Couture lipstick line different from their other round tube lipsticks. I looked on the YSL Beauty website, and I got a history lesson! Yves Saint Laurent, the man himself, decided in 1978 that he wanted to dress women’s lips in couture colors just as he dressed their bodies in couture colors. Here’s what I learned:
- ROUGE PUR COUTURE: a wardrobe of iconic lipsticks able to deliver the promise of pure color, draped elegantly onto the lips. The lipstick of heroines. A product so luxurious, so subversive, that it became the ultimate weapon for uncompromising seduction. Almost 40 years later, ROUGE PUR COUTURE remains the manifesto of an audacious, free-spirited femininity that breaks the rules to reinvent them.
- In just one stroke, luxurious, rich color dresses the lips with intense hydration and antioxidant care. In a signature couture jewel-like packaging, Rouge Pur Couture delivers the promise of edgy style and ultimate feminine strength.
That’s exactly what I experienced in trying out these two stunning shades:
- Rose Stiletto, plummy rose shade
- Le Fuchsia, bright cool-toned fuchsia (a mixture of pink/purple/red).
The two shades are completely different. Le Fuchsia makes a bold statement and helps light up one’s face. Rose Stiletto is gorgeous, but lets you speak for yourself.
Although I find myself wearing Rose Stiletto most often, they are both stunning colors.
What really amazes me is how beautiful both shades look on women of all different skin tones. They really are universally flattering. I’m wearing Rose Stiletto below, and it looks beautifully rosy in natural daylight.
The Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks with antioxidants are incredibly creamy and hydrating. They feel sooooooo great on my dry lips! Especially now that we’re heading toward winter, I am grateful to have these beauties. They are just so darn comfortable to wear.
The only slight downside to the hydrating formula is that it’s not a long-wearing formula. If I don’t eat anything, the Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks last for 3 or 4 hours on me. If I eat or drink, the lipstick does need to be touched up or reapplied. Truth be told, that’s fine with me. I have no problem whipping out the luxurious square gold tube and re-applying my lipstick. In fact, it’s one of those timeless feminine gestures that I actually enjoy. I used to own retro mirrors that I bought in antique stores just for that purpose. Now, I just have to find them!
YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks come in 14 shades and are priced at $36. Though they are a splurge, I think the Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks are definitely worth it. Look at how lovely the bullets look embossed with the YSL logo.
If you sign up for emails on the YSL Beauty site, you can save 10% on your first purchase. Plus the Sephora discount event for members is only a few weeks away. Definitely add a YSL Rouge Pur Couture to your wish list or your holiday gift list! You’ll be glad you did.
