RMS Legendary Serum Lipsticks

I Bought This - Affiliate links

At the end of the summer, there was a sale on RMS Legendary Serum Lipsticks. Although I don’t love everything I’ve tried from RMS, I do love Rose-Marie Swift, the makeup artist behind RMS Beauty. She’s a wonder! And she wear RMS Serum Lipstick in bright red Ruby Moon.

Because the sale was 2 for the price of 1, I chose two different shades:

  • Ruby Moon, Rose-Marie’s favorite shade of red, Poppy Orange-Red
  • Miranda, described as Classic Soft Rose.

RMS Legendary Serum Lipsticks are described as “Lipstick, lip serum, lip stain hybrid with 8hrs of hydration”. But it’s one of those lipsticks that’s as light as a feather.

Here’s what RMS has to say about their Legendary Serum Lipstick:

What it Is:
This first of its kind lipstick and lip stain serum creates fully saturated, long-lasting coverage with just one swipe. Super lightweight yet deeply pigmented, the non-drying water-based formula hydrates, smooths and revitalizes lips with a velvety, satin finish. Minimum effort, weightless feel, lasting impact.

What it Does:
A completely new way of providing long-lasting color and hydration to lips, this innovative lip stain delivers rich nutrients and vivid lightweight color with a surprising cooling sensation upon application.

What Makes it Special:
The majority of the water inside the formula has been replaced with organic Bitter Cherry Fruit Water that hydrates, smooths, and revitalizes the skin. RMS Adaptogenic Herbal Blend balances and Kakadu Plum Extract protects, while the Trio-Wax Complex provides a velvety, serum-like finish. All featured in 8 gorgeous shades created by Rose-Marie herself, and named after the legends in her own life.

My Experience with Legendary Serum Lipstick

As usual, I plowed into trying my new lipsticks without reading the information that came with it. I figured how difficult could using a lipstick be? Well, I sort of screwed up Miranda.

At the bottom of the tubes, there are arrows. You’re supposed to twist the bottom until it clicks. Rather than stop at one click, I kept going. What I didn’t realize is that you can’t twist it backwards if you twist too much. Quite the surprise, and my own fault.

Nevertheless, I picked up the phone and called RMS and told them what happened. The woman I spoke to was lovely and she said she would request that another tube be sent out to me. And it was. But I have learned my lesson, one click does the trick!

As I mentioned above, the Serum Lipstick is very lightweight. And it’s a breeze to apply. One click raises the bullet just enough to preserve the crisp edge. The Serum Lipstick absolutely glides over the lips. With it’s satin(y) finish, it more or less melts onto the lips, and I haven’t needed to apply a second swipe because it’s so highly pigmented. One and done.

Although it is billed as a hydrating lipstick, on my dry lips, I find it initially hydrating and then as time goes on, it seems neither drying nor hydrating. So I often apply it over MAC Prep N Prime to give me a little extra hydration. I doubt that anyone else would need to do that.
In addition, Serum Lipstick doesn’t wander, feather or crease, though sometimes I like to apply lipliner just to enhance the look of my lips.

Serum Lipstick definitely has lip staining properties. Even after eating or drinking color does remain on my lips. Eating oily foods, however, can be a dealbreaker. On those occasions, I will reapply. In fact, I don’t even need a mirror because it’s so easy to apply. At the end of the day, I often use Derma E Universal Cleansing Balm to remove it. Micellar water doesn’t quite get it all off.

I like RMS Legendary Serum Lipstick a lot. I can’t wear matte lipsticks, so this long wearing serum lipstick acts similarly for me but without drying out my lips.

Ruby Moon is my “evening out” lipstick of choice. And I often reach for Miranda during the day if I’m headed out somewhere.

as well as the 5 Nude shades. I don’t believe there is a pastel or nude light enough for my friend, Marcia, who likes to wear pale shades with her very fair skin. Also, there is a very slight scent to Serum Lipstick if I sniff the bullet, but I don’t smell anything when it’s on my lips.

RMS Legendary Serum Lipstick is regularly priced at $35, that’s why I was so happy to get them at half off during the sale.

During a future sale, I would like to try Eve, one of the Nude Collection shades, described as Natural Knockout Nude that I would say looks like a pinky-nude.

Currently, RMS Beauty is selling a Holiday Bundle of 3 shades of Serum Lipstick for $55 (which is 47% off) called “Legends to Love”, consisting of: Miranda, Eve and Josephine, a rich cranberry shade.

If I didn’t already own two tubes of Miranda, I would consider buying the bundle since I really want to try Eve. I think the Legends to Love bundle would make a great gift for a lipstick lover.

In addition to being sold on the RMS Beauty website, Legendary Serum Lipsticks are also sold at Macys (where Rakuten is giving an additional 10% cash back) and Nordstrom where they are currently on sale for $29.75, on Amazon, JC Penney and Ulta where they are currently on sale for $31.50, and on QVC.com where you can buy a duo of specific shades of Nudes or Pinks for $44.

I have been so curious about these. I’ve looked at them so many times. I’d like one of the “nude” ones although it might not be light enough. I’m glad you got them 2/1 and that RMS was so great in their CS to replace the messed up one.

    1. As I wrote, Marcia, I’m not sure that even the nude collection is quite light enough for you. And there’s that tiny bit of scent too. But yes, I lucked out buying them during the sale and their customer support couldn’t have been nicer and more understanding!
