Back in April, I received the Emjoi Epi Slim+ Epilator model e18 to try out. Well, I’ve been using it for 5 months, and it’s about time I reviewed it. I know, I can hear you saying, Oh no, I’m not trying an epilator, lol! But hear me out.
The Emjoi Epi Slim+ Epilator model e18 is a petite (5.5 inch), lightweight, ergonomically-shaped, battery-operated (it takes 2 AA batteries) hair removal device. It’s easy to hold and manipulate. I believe that it was designed for use on the face and smaller areas such as bikini area or underarms, or for touchups on larger areas like the legs. It works via 18 tweezer action discs that remove hair from the root.
As a bit of background, I had been curious about epilators for a while. I saw a segment on HSN or QVC for a large Emjoi Epilator and I almost ordered it, but I chickened out. Truth be told, I was nervous about using it. I thought it would hurt too much. Frankly, I wanted an epilator specifically to use on my face. The fine blonde hair that I have on my cheeks and above my lips really bugged me. And over the past few years, I began to notice some coarser hairs on my chin. Ugh. I used my tweezers to remove the chin hairs, but it was too difficult to use tweezers on fine hairs. When I was offered an opportunity to try the Emjoi Epi Slim+ Epilator, I jumped at the chance.
The Emjoi Epi Slim is very easy to operate. I put in the two small batteries and turned it on. The way to use is to hold the skin taut and move the epilator back and forth or in circles on the area that you want to epilate.
So does it hurt? It pinches like a tweezer pinches. I’d also describe it at first like getting a mild quick shock. But the strange thing is that I get used to it after about 30 seconds and it doesn’t bother me after that, it’s like I don’t feel it anymore. The more often I use it, the less I feel it.
It does a really good job removing most of my facial hair, and it takes a loooooong time to grow back, like more than a month, so I don’t have to use the epilator very often! So then I do have to get used to it again. 🙄 I gotta tell you, this really beats tweezers, and I just cannot do wax.
The only disappointment is using it on my chin hairs. For some strange reason, it doesn’t remove hair on my chin (meaning along the bone, it does fine on any hairs under my lower lip). I tried and tried to make it work and I ended up taking off my skin. Don’t do that, lol!
The Emjoi Epi Slim+ Epilator comes with a little brush to clean the head after use. I definitely can tell it’s working because I can see all the tiny little hairs it removes! I can also remove the head from time to time to clean it and then pop it back in.
If you’ve never tried an epilator before but you’ve been curious about it like me, I recommend starting with the Emjoi Epi Slim. It’s perfect for the face (except for the chin, lol) and can be used on other areas. It’s affordable, around $35. It’s available on Amazon, at Target, at Walmart, Walgreens, the Emjoi website, and other sites. Be brave. At least think about it!
