Sometimes I forget which cosmetics are coming my way. Today was one of those days.
I received an envelope from Highlight Cosmetics containing an attractive little box with the logo, H, in gold on the outside. I was excited because it was lipstick! (I get so much skincare that it is very exciting to get a new lipstick to try out.)
I removed the lipstick from the box, and I could see the bullet through the clear plastic top. The shade, Moroccan Spice, looked like an attractive nude.
For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how to get to the bullet. I tried pulling the top off, to no avail. Then I tried twisting the packaging and sure enough, it began to twist off. As the bottom separated from the top, it revealed a doe-foot applicator. What a surprise! I had forgotten that this was a liquid lipstick! They had me fooled. The “bullet” that shows through the clear packaging shows the shade! OK, now I’ve got it.
In all honesty, I’m not usually a fan of liquid matte lipstick. My poor dry lips usually can’t take it. But I thought, let me give this new brand a try.
What I didn’t know was that Highlight Cosmetics developed a better-for-you, or actually a good-for-you liquid matte lipstick formula. This liquid lipstick is chock full of all kinds of goodies, usually the kinds of things I try to include in my diet. The formula contains the antioxidants, Vitamins C and E.
- turmeric: antibacterial, improves softness, prevents dryness and chapping
- green tea extract: antioxidant, prevents inflammation, improves moisture barrier
- white tea extract: antioxidant, contains carotenoids and vitamins that help repair damaged skin
- kelp extract: prevents sun damage, moisturizes, reduces damage from inflammation
- a peptide, palmitoyl tetra peptide that reduces the appearance of lip wrinkles and lip roughness and helps lips look soft, moist and smooth.
So, how does Highlight Liquid Matte Lipstick perform on my usually dry lips? It goes on very plush. It feels more like a mousse than a liquid. It immediately sinks into my lips and dries down to a matte finish. It feels only the slightest bit dry/tight, but it is not uncomfortable like other liquid matte lipsticks can feel on my lips. It just feels weightless but like I have something on my lips.
Moroccan Spice dries down to a mauve-nude with a bit of peach in it. Very pretty. My typical shade. Perfect for now and fall.
How well does it last? I applied it, and then ate a substantial dinner about 2 1/2 hours later. Prior to the meal, it appeared as if freshly applied. After eating it faded somewhat but it still looked like I was wearing lipstick. Also, I should mention that it’s non-transferable. It didn’t come off on my glass. Seven hours after application (and after eating a meal and drinking), it had faded but my lips still looked like I was wearing lipstick. Plus, my lips didn’t feel dry.
I am actually delighted by Highlight Liquid Matte Lipstick. I didn’t think I could wear a liquid matte lipstick but with this one, I can.
I love Moroccan Spice, but there are also 9 other shades – a good range of shades from neutrals, to reds, to pinks and purples – including 5 metallics. Check them out on the Highlight Cosmetics website.
