After I saw a gorgeous blue drawstring bucket bag in a photo on The Fabzilla’s wonderful beauty blog, I’ve been on the look out for one for myself. I saw a beautiful turquoise bucket bag priced at a deep discount at Marshall’s in Boston, but the shoulder strap was waaaaaay too long for me so I passed.
Fortunately, Macy’s had a big sale a couple of week’s ago on bags, and I found the one I had been waiting for. It’s a summer bag because it’s fuchsia with orange trim. I adore that color combo, probably because I grew up with Dunkin’ Donuts.
To be honest, I chose the Claremont bag because of the colors and the style. I didn’t realize that Dooney & Bourke bucket bags come in different sizes, and mine is one of the larger ones: dimensions H 11.5″ x W 7.25″ x L 10″. I could almost hide an elephant in this bag, but I carry a lot of stuff with me and this will aid and abet that bad habit. Surprisingly, even though it is a big leather bag, it isn’t heavy. And frankly, I don’t think that Macy’s had the medium size on sale in the colors I wanted anyway. Fortunately, the adjustable strap drop length is 10.5″, perfect for me.
The Dooney & Bourke Claremont bag is made of embossed leather with a colorful resin-coated interior. There’s a long cord inside to attach my keys to that makes them easy to find in that huge bag. And there are two storage sections, one zippered and another open area that has a snap in the middle, inside the bag to stores things that I’ll need to get at quickly like my phone. The bag has feet on the bottom to keep the bottom of the bag clean.
On the Dooney & Bourke website, the Fall collection – Montecito – prices the large bucket bag that’s just a tad bigger than mine at $428, and I paid $175 for mine on sale at Macy’s. Right now, it’s priced at $216 on the Dooney & Bourke website. Not bad, not bad at all. Plus Dooney & Bourke bags literally last forever. Just last year, I gave away my Dooney & Bourke classic shoulder bag that I bought in the 1980s. It still looked brand new.
So what do you think? Would you buy a pink bag? Did you get a new summer bag this year?
