As I’ve mentioned previously, I give away a lot of stuff on our local Buy Nothing group. Occasionally, I will ask to be considered by someone who is giving something away that I could use. Today’s post is about one of those occasions.
A woman in my neighborhood was giving away probably about 10 boxes of Earthen InstantPeel Exfoliant. I don’t know her very well, so I wondered how she ended up with 10 boxes. She was generous enough to give me a box. However, she left it in my mailbox, so I didn’t have an opportunity to ask her about how she came by so much Earthen InstantPeel.
I love exfoliants, especially chemical exfoliants. Lately, however, I’ve been using a physical exfoliant from Nulastin, a cream cleanser with dissolving microbeads. I have been using it a couple of times a week. So that’s my recent background with exfoliation.
Earthen InstantPeel Exfoliant
I was surprised to discover that Earthen InstantPeel is a box containing 6 single-use packets.
Earthen recommends using the product either in or directly after the shower on skin that is wet and pores that are open from steam. But recently, I was in the mood to use it later in the day after I had showered in the morning.
I removed one of the packets from the box and opened one end. I was surprised to discover that it is a liquid peel.
I had cleansed my skin and rinsed with warm water. I poured some of the InstantPeel liquid onto my hand and tried to apply it to my face. It was runny. Again, now what I expected. Then I discovered that the InstantPeel solution had separated in the packet and needed to be mixed. I tried squishing the packet to get the water to mix with the powder or clay-like material at the bottom of the packet. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how successful I was. I spread it over my face, and tried to massage it in circles. As I massaged the solution, it quickly dried to a cafe au lait color. Since there wasn’t much I could do at that point, I let it sit there on my skin for about 3 minutes and then I rinsed it off with cool water. My skin felt soft and not dehydrated.
Frankly, I had expected the Earthen InstantPeel Exfoliant to work like Theraderm NuPeel Enzyme Peel (reviewed here) or Truffoire White Truffle Facial Peel (reviewed here), gel/cream chemical exfoliators, both of which I used for years. Using them, the dead skin would ball up as I massaged the gel-cream. To be honest, after this one trial, I didn’t experience any visible “instapeeling”. Not much seemed to happen. It could be that I didn’t have enough dead skin cells on my face because I had used the Nulastin a couple of days ago, or the solution from inside the packet wasn’t mixed well enough. I didn’t use the entire contents of the packet because my face was covered, but maybe I just didn’t use enough of the product, especially since it is a “single-use” packet.
Earthen Instant Peel Exfoliant was Earthen Inc.’s first product, introduced in 2017. It’s sold via their website where they’ve posted loads of positive consumer reviews. It’s priced at $70 for 6 single-use packets or $11.67 per packet. Not inexpensive.
Cruelty-free and formulated without mineral oil, phthalates, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, or gluten. The product does contain preservatives, e.g. Methyl and Propylparabens. Though I often avoid skincare products with peppermint, I had no issues with this product. And I couldn’t smell any peppermint or any fragrance at all.

Have you tried Earthen InstantPeel? What was your experience with it? Did you use it in or after your shower? Did you have to “peel off” the mask? Or did it “ball up” on your face?
Because I have dry skin, I will wait till next week before I try InstantPeel again. I will also not use the Nulastin cream exfoliant between now and then. I will also use the entire packet. And I’ll report back. But please do weigh in if you have experience with Earthen InstantPeel Exfoliant.
