As I predicted in my BSST post, I have been missing because of the snow. We got about 18 inches on top of the 3.5 feet we already had. So now we have about 5 feet of snow. It will surely be April or maybe even May until I see the grass again.
Thrive Causemetics EmpowerMatte Precision Lipstick Crayon
During Valentine’s Day week, Thrive Causemetics had a free shipping promo going on, so I figured it would be a good time to reorder my favorite Thrive Defying Gravity Eye Lifting Cream. While I was on their site, I noticed that their Lipstick Crayon in the shade, Dusty Rose called Kaisa, was on sale for $9. I added it to my cart.
This has been a tough winter for my lips. They have been drier than usual in spite of using lots of lip hydrators. I have found that many, in fact most, lipsticks dry out my lips. As a result, I have been wearing lipsticks less often. I think that it is the pigment within the lipstick formula that dries out my lips. A few lipsticks like one I bought probably about a decade ago from Tarte, my Wayne Goss lipsticks, an old lipstick from Rimmel, a couple of Revlon lipsticks, and my RMS lightweight lipsticks actually don’t dry out my lips. So if I want to wear other lipsticks, I make sure to hydrate my lips first. Actually, I usually just hydrate my lips before I wear any lipstick this winter. Spring, where are you?
Thrive Precision Lipstick Crayon EmpowerMatte is a very nice one. Honestly, when I bought this, I didn’t notice the “EmpowerMatte” sub-title. I usually steer clear of matte lipsticks. But now I own it, so this is how it works with my dry lips.
It’s initially creamy, and it glides on like a quasi-oil-based crayon. But it stays put and doesn’t end up in my lip lines. As long as I don’t eat oily foods, the color stays on for hours since it’s formulated with “Semi-Permanent Micro-Pigments”, that give lips a velvet matte finish.
In terms of comfort, it’s fairly comfortable even with my dry lips. The initial creaminess of the formula goes away after a few minutes. The lipstick is very lightweight, and I often forget that I’m wearing it. After an hour or two, my lips begin to feel drier. Putting a hydrating balm on top makes my lips feel better.
Kaisa, the dusty rose or pink shade, is lovely. It looks great in the swatch on my arm.
However, the color of my lips is so dark, I guess, that Kaisa doesn’t show up on my lips as deeply as I might like. In fact, it makes my lips look lighter than they actually are.
Nevertheless, for $9, I’m glad I bought it. Thrive Causemetics EmpowerMatte Precision Lipstick Crayon comes in 17 beautiful shades. Its regular price is $28 and the twist up tube contains 1.2 g/0.042 oz.
If you enjoy wearing matte lipsticks, I think this velvet matte is worth considering because it is long-wearing and, even for me, quite comfortable.
