There are some brands that, if I had an unlimited budget, I would buy all the time. PCA Skin is one of those brands. PCA Skin is a science-based brand that caters not only to consumers like us but to professionals as well. In fact, PCA stands for Physicians Care Alliance. In addition, PCA Skin is the #1 professional chemical peel brand among estheticians.

But today, I’m not writing about chemical peels. Instead, I will reviewing PCA Skin Silkcoat Balm. The name of the product has been changed to Silkcoat Balm for Aging and Sensitive Skin. So PCA Skin Silkcoat Balm is perfect for dry, mature skin like mine.

I started using this balm in March when the temperature was still really cold and wintry. It was definitely the antidote for cold days, especially when I was spending time outdoors. It’s also recommended for any harsh climate including dry heat.

If you need hydration like my skin does, PCA Skin Silkcoat Balm is ideal. It has the consistency of mousse: white fluff! Its silk proteins provide deep, but non-greasy hydration.

This hydrator provides potent antioxidant protection to skin while calming and improving the appearance of mature skin. Now that it’s Spring, I often use PCA Skin Silkcoat Balm as my nighttime moisturizer. It’s great because it doesn’t stain my pillowcase like some other super-hydrating moisturizers can.

Key ingredients include:

  • jojoba seed oil: a natural moisturizer
  • vitamin E/tocopherol: a well-known antioxidant and emollient that protects the lipids in the body, including cell membranes, from free radical damage while softening and soothing skin
  • hydrolyzed silk: a light, non-greasy moisturizer (that’s the mousse-like consistency!)
  • squalane: a oil derived from olives or wheat germ (maybe avoid this if you are gluten-free) that protects fats/lipids within the body including the skin by supporting the skin’s barrier

PCA Skin Silkcoat Balm comes in a heavy plastic jar containing 1.7 fl. oz./489.2 g, so it makes sense to apply it with a beauty spoon or paddle. The Silkcoat Balm is sold on the PCA Skin website where it’s priced at $63 but where Rakuten is currently offering a 20% rebate. It’s also available at a variety of online retailers, some at discounted prices, including Dermstore.com (where Rakuten also has a 20% rebate and it is currently on sale for 15% off with code WELCOME15), SkincareEssentials.com, DermStreet.com, Lovelyskin.com, and Target. Right now, it is 37% off at Target.com where the price is $39.99. Plus, it’s sold at spas and at the offices of certified skincare professionals.
