Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Mascara

I Bought This - Affiliate links

OK, I fell for another mascara brand with a unique point of difference.  And I bought two, again.

Benefits of Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Mascara

This time, the mascara is Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Mascara. The “curling iron” part was the unique part. The wand is made from metal: no bristles, no plastic teeth, just a small spiral or tiny grooves made from the same metal as the handle. The wand head is slightly skewed from the handle. One of the benefits of the slim, microgrooved-wand head is that it can get very close to the root of the lashes as you apply the mascara helping to create and hold the curl.

Olivia Blaire is a lengthening mascara, and I tend to prefer lengthening mascara. The specific benefits are listed as:

  • extreme lift
  • length
  • separation/no clumping
  • designed for stubborn, straight, or Asian lashes.

When I read customer reviews before taking the plunge, users said the wand and mascara:

  • acts like a “push-up bra” for lashes
  • creates lashes that hold a curl all day
  • has no clumping or flaking.

BTW, Olivia Blaire Mascara is smudge-free, and it’s also vegan and cruelty-free.

Sounded interesting to me, even though my lashes don’t really need lift, and I no longer have short, straight lashes after using ViveLab and Scorolash Lash Serums. Anyway, I wanted to try that iron wand. So I took advantage of their Buy One, Get One Free offer, and now I own two tubes of Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Mascara.

Conquering the Iron Wand Application

Olive Blaire Curling Iron Mascara requires a bit of a learning curve. So I watched a few videos like this one from Olivia Blaire.

Based on Katie’s video, it didn’t look too difficult except applying the mascara on top of her lashes as well as the underside (no, just no). She seemed to wiggle the wand as she applied it, but the woman in another video applied it by stroking it on. As you may have noticed in Katie’s video, she got some of the mascara from the wand on her eyelid. The same thing happened to me. Because I apply my eyeshadow before applying mascara, trying to remove the mascara from my lid was not so easy without screwing up my eyeshadow. Boo.

Nevertheless, I continued. I actually felt that the slim metal wand head with the grooves lent itself to clumping especially at the base of the lashes. Maybe that’s the learning curve that I heard about, i.e. learning how to avoid clumping at the base? At any rate, I used the wand to “bring up” the mascara to get rid of the clump.

Because my lashes already hold a curl, I can’t speak about that. And because my colorless lashes are already long, I primarily use mascara to color them. So after applying a few coats, my lashes were sufficiently black (they also make the mascara in brown) and long enough. Frankly, on one of my eyes, the lashes looked a little clumped. By and large, I wasn’t impressed.

Removing Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Waterproof Mascara

Although I do not usually use waterproof mascara, I discovered that Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Mascara is waterproof. Since waterproof mascaras can help lashes hold a curl longer, it does make sense that this is a waterproof mascara. However, what the company doesn’t tell you is how difficult this waterproof mascara is to remove. So far, I tried the Bioderma Hydrabio micellar water that I use all the time to remove my makeup, but the Olivia Blaire Mascara didn’t budge. I switched to Epicutis Oil Cleanser, and I had a hard time with that as well. Rather than continuing to use a cotton pad which was useless with the oil cleanser, I tried applying the oil directly to my lashes and rubbing them to loosen or to “dissolve” the mascara. I had to use a ton of oil and rubbing to get the mascara off. Honestly,  in trying to remove the mascara, I did more harm to my skin than I ever have before. Plus, I was afraid that I would lose some lashes in the process.

My Thoughts So Far

In sum, Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Mascara has been a failure for me. I have a feeling that if I continued to use the metal wand, I could make it work. The deal-breaker, however, is the removal process. At this point, I don’t feel the need to stress my mature skin and lashes anymore than necessary.

Although Olivia Blaire has a return policy, the mascara must be returned within 30 days in an unopened, unused condition. Plus, the consumer is responsible for paying the return shipping. Why would you return the mascara unopened and unused? Maybe if I bought multiple tubes, I could return all but one? But since I bought it during the BOGO promo, I doubt they would refund my money for the single tube nor would it be worth it after paying the shipping. Oh well.

Nevertheless, I bought the mascara because of the iron wand. Instead of giving up completely, I am going to use cleansing oil to remove any mascara from the metal wand, and then try it with my favorite mascara for the past year or so, Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara. I’d like to find out if the wand works any better than Thrive’s own, more typical wand at applying the mascara and lengthening. Stay tuned.

In case you are curious enough to want to try the metal wand and are more skilled at removing hard to remove waterproof mascara, you can purchase Olivia Blaire Curling Iron Mascara on their website. They are still running their BOGO promotion for $24.95. It is also sold on Amazon in Brown, one tube for $14.99. The one customer on Amazon who reviewed the product called it “a scam”. She didn’t say why. Nevertheless, buying the mascara from the Olivia Blaire website is not a scam. It’s just not a cinch to apply and remove.

  1. What a disappointment! My son once was in a drag show for a fundraiser. At the time, he was living with us because he’d just sold his home. He came looking to me for how to remove the mascara. I gave him good old fashioned Pond’s Cold Cream. I wonder if that would have worked. Like you, that removal (or not removal) would have been the deal breaker. What an odd policy that you have to return it unopened. How would you know if you didn’t open it? What a good idea to use the wand with your Thrive. I’m currently using Laura Gellar tubing mascara and like it quite a bit.

    1. Great story, Marsha. Hope you’ve got lots of pix of your son in costume! Pond’s Cold Cream is good stuff (they were my client for years, Unilever US), but I have trouble using it on my eyes because it has something in it that burns. I do have some cleansing balms somewhere, but I couldn’t find them. On your question about how would they know if it had been opened: it comes in a box and each end of the box has a very strong rounded piece of tape keeping the box closed. If you want to get the tube out, you have to cut the tape. I have tried anything from Laura Geller in a long time. Glad to hear that her tubing mascara is a good one!

  2. I to found the same issue could not get the stuff off m, my eczema flared up round my eyes and then I emailed them to ask how to return the item as 30 day money back guaranteed if not satisfied, so far no reply….. customer service please 🙃😞 disappointed

    1. Wow, Marie, I’m sorry that the same thing happened to you with Olivia Blaire mascara. I didn’t try to return the two tubes I bought because I figured I would have to pay for postage, and it wouldn’t be worth the trouble. I hope you do receive a reply. Nevertheless, thank you very much for letting me know I’m not alone!

    1. Sadly, I agree. And I bought two 🙁
