Yesterday was my birthday, and Jeff put together a great celebration for me. As a result, I haven’t had a chance to write my usual beauty reviews this week (it’s also Passover). So today, I’m mostly just saying hello!
This year for my birthday dinner, I chose Bernadette, a new French-inspired farm-to-table restaurant in historic Salem MA. The restaurant opened in November, and this is the first splurge occasion that we have had to try it out. In fact, I have paused my Passover observance to celebrate my birthday this year.

The interior of the restaurant was a cross between elegant and casual. Everything is swathed in a pale peach-beige-ochre-olive/grey.

The beautiful red cocktail I ordered is called Amour Amer, a variation on a French cocktail based on the spritz. Their cocktail recipe contains Hibiscus Lillet, Meyer lemon, lemon soda, and pink sparkling wine. It was light, not particularly sweet, and very refreshing. I loved it.
Though I typically limit the amount of beef that I eat, this was a special occasion. I ordered Niman Ranch New York Strip Steak, an entree just added to their menu this week. I prefer my steak cooked medium with pink in the center. My steak was cooked to perfection for me. It was absolutely delicious as were the Lyonnaise potatoes.
Jeff ordered Fruits de Mer made with Homemade Lemon Saffron Thin Spaghetti, Manila Clams, and Octopus. I tried some of the pasta (without the seafood), and the spaghetti itself and the lemon saffron sauce was to die for. Yum!
We skipped dessert at the restaurant, and instead, we had birthday cake at home.
You may know that I love hearts, and the double heart plates from William-Sonoma were a birthday gift from Jeff’s two lovely daughters. <3 They went perfectly with my yummy, soft-as-a-cloud primary color cake!
