My Trouble Sleeping
Falling asleep has never been my strong suit, actually since I was born. My parents always told me they used to drive around hoping I would fall asleep. Even now, to be honest, many nights I am still up at 2am or even later. Not surprisingly, I have a hard time waking up in the morning. Ugh.

For more than 20 years, I had been taking a half or a whole Benadryl pill every night so I could sleep. Over the past couple of years, however, my doctor noticed that my kidney scores were not where they should be. I looked up Benadryl online and discovered that frequent Benadryl usage is discouraged among older adults. I saw that it could have deleterious effects on kidneys. So, I stopped taking it.
I was concerned about taking the prescription medication that my doctor prescribed because sleep walking can be a side effect. So since the end of June, I’ve been taking nothing and having a hard time sleeping.
When I got an email from a PR person asking me if I would be interested in trying their transdermal patches, I became especially interested when I noticed their Sleep patch.
Bon Patch
Bon Patch is a company based in Australia that makes wearable patches infused with different natural ingredients that support a variety of emotional and physical states. They use a transdermal delivery system that provides a controlled amount of ingredients such as botanicals, vitamins and what Bon Patch refers to as “functional compounds”. They enter the bloodstream through the skin, bypassing the digestive system. That made Bon Patch patches particularly intriguing to me. My stomach, or rather my digestive tract, has a difficult time with so many drugs. I was looking for something that would be easier for me to take.
Bon Patch makes 9 different transdermal patches aimed at addressing wellness outcomes, such as:
- Clarity
- Vitality
- Metabolism
- Relaxation
- Glow (skin health)
- Love and sex
- Detox (not quite sure about this one. Maybe it’s for a hangover?) (I didn’t receive a sample of this one because it is currently SOLD OUT!)
- Menopause/Perimenopause (Bon Patch says its for addressing “energy, mood and balance”. Not sure if it helps with hot flashes etc.)
- Sleep
The patches are designed to be worn for up to 12 hours. More than one patch (for different issues) can be worn at the same time.
The patches come in a small box containing 30 patches. You peel off a clear patch from the paper backing, and apply it to clean, dry, hair-free skin. Each patch is almost an inch and a half square. At the end of the period, remove the patch and discard.
Bon Patch patches are:
- vegan
- lactose free
- gluten free
- paraben free
- latex free
- all natural.
Bon Patch Sleep Patches
It was terrific that the folks at Bon Patch sent me samples of almost all of their patches to try out. Nevertheless, I was eager to try the Sleep patches first, and that’s what I have been doing. I’ve been using the Sleep patches for over a week, and they work to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. The ingredients in the Sleep patch are:
- Valerian extract
- Passionflower extract
- Hops extract
- Hemp extract (derived from hemp seeds and does not contain THC)
- Lavender essential oil aroma
After applying the patch, Bon Patch recommends scratching the top of the patch to release the lavender aroma. I love the scent of lavender, and I enjoy the relaxing whiff of lavender before falling asleep.
My Experiences with Sleep Patches
I seem to fall asleep faster than if I didn’t use the patch, and I definitely sleep more soundly. I need to try applying the patch about a half hour or so before bed to see if it makes me sleepy earlier so I won’t be such a night owl!
The first night that I tried the Sleep patch, I felt a bit groggy in the morning feeling like I could stay in bed or go back to sleep, but that sensation disappeared once I got out of bed. Now I try to get up right away and remove the patch so I can start my day.
So far, I am a convert to Bon Patch Sleep patches. The deeper, more sound sleep is definitely worth it to me!!
The box of 30 Sleep patches, a month supply, is priced at $40 per box with the price decreasing is you buy two or three or more. All of the patch varieties are priced the same. Plus if you wish to get just a toe wet before buying an entire box, they are available in samples of 2 for $8 or 6 for $15. They are available at the Bon Patch website. Made in the U.K.
Next, I will try Relax, Metabolise, and Glow while continuing with Sleep at night.
Because these are supplements, they are not tested by the FDA. If you are considering using any supplement, check with your healthcare provider first.

As someone else with a historically difficult relationship with sleep, I was so excited to read that these worked for you and I was going to try them, but… valerian and I do not get along. *sigh* The search continues. I’m thrilled these worked for you, though! Yay sleep!
Oh boo. Does Wellmoon have valerian as well? I have seen that one but haven’t tried it since Bon Patch is doing the trick for me now
So glad you reviewed these. I’m trying to find a non-pharmaceutical sleep aid, too, so I’ll try these!
Hope they work for you! So far, they do make a difference for me!
I’m going to write this down since I have had sleep problems forever. I’m glad it’s working for you
I’ll have to check that out. Thanks for the idea of where to look next!
You’re welcome <3
Hi, Allison – It’s so funny: my husband used to put our first born into the car and drive around the freeways at night in order to put her to sleep. I was so relieved to get a swing for her because that worked too. But it wound down after a few hours, so I had to sleep next to the swing and wake up to rewind it every time. My husband and his mother have always had insomnia, so maybe that’s where our daughter got it. We’ve tried everything for my husband and nothing has worked. I’m going to buy a box of these Bon Patches and hope for the best! Thanks – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
Your husband sounds like the torture test for Bon Patches Sleep patches! I hope they work for him. They definitely work better for me than taking nothing like I’ve been doing for at least 4 months. BTW, I love your story about waking up and rewind your baby daughter’s swing throughout the night!! So sweet! So exhausting for you!
