Busy, Busy Days Beauty & Style Spotlight Team

Where I’ve Been This Week

This past week has been so busy for me which is why I have been MIA. Not sure if the next several weeks will be much different. I am having my basement “finished” in July and probably August. I wish I had done this 20 years ago when I first moved into the new house, but I didn’t think I needed to plus I was traveling for work so much it wouldn’t have worked out. So, I’m doing it now during a time of tariffs and inflation. The cost is 4 times more than it was even 10 years ago. Ugh.

What’s also so tough for me right now is emptying out my basement. I inherited everything from my parents, my brother, my grandmother, and even a few things from my aunts on my father’s side. I have given away almost 800 items to the Buy Nothing group in my town. I have also donated tons of things to local thrift stores that support community good works. I hired a college student who does junk removal during the summer, and I got rid of about one and a half truckloads of boxes for $600. Nevertheless, there are still more things I need to go through and get rid of. It’s overwhelming.

I also have a huge, “brand new” but 24 years old (never used) custom-made couch that I bought for the porch I converted to a 3 season room in the house I inherited from my folks. I moved to my current house soon afterwards, so the couch has been sitting under plastic in the basement. But now I think I can use it in the revitalized lower level. So, it needs to be moved out of the basement into the connected garage. I will have to hire some guys to do that for me.

This past week, my general contractor brought in one of his teams to find and fix the leak on the western wall in my family room. Big job. And another contractor came at the same time to install a new garage door opener in one of my garage door bays. Although my current opener worked well, he needed an updated motor in order to install a keypad for the subcontractors who will be working in the basement. I am truly watching my dollars take off with wings.

In addition, my aunt who was often like my older sister is at the end of her life, and it is very upsetting. She’s in a nursing home and is more medicated than makes sense at least to me and to some of my cousins. But we’re not her children, so it isn’t our decision. Very sad.

So forgive me if my blogposts are more sporadic in the coming weeks.
