National Lipstick Week

I Bought This - Affiliate links

Yes, yes, I missed the actual National Lipstick Day earlier this week, but I noticed that lots of brands and retailers are celebrating National Lipstick “Week”. So here are my current faves.

Because I have naturally dry lips, I stay away from mattes and liquid lipsticks and go for creamy lipsticks and glosses with satin or glossy finishes. If you share my preferences in lipstick, read on!

MAC Prep + Prime Lip

I have some lipsticks and especially glosses that like to wander. That’s why I love MAC Prep + Prime Lip. It’s a waxy hydrating twist up tube that makes my lipsticks and glosses stay put while making my lips feel soft and moisturized. I buy it when MAC has their 40% off sales, though the regular price is $15.

City Lips

You know that I adore City Lips. My favorites are the Clear that I put on every night before bed and the opaque shades, especially last year’s introduction, Coral Sunrise, and a new shade this spring/summer, Cherry. Because these two saturated shades tend to wander on my lips and end up in my liplines, I wear MAC Prep + Prime Lip under them. City Lips are $35 each, but I wait for one of their fairly frequent sales to replenish my stash.

Glamour “Do”

RMS Legendary Serum Lipstick

Last week a friend of mine told me she liked the red lipstick I was wearing. She asked me which brand it was because she was tiring of her formerly favorite red. I told her it is RMS Legendary Serum Lipstick, shade Ruby Moon. I love the ultralight, non-wandering, a-cinch-to-smooth-on lipstick from RMS so much that I own three shades that are always in regular rotation (though I don’t wear Ruby Moon quite as much in summer). Miranda is a bright peachy-pink that RMS describes as “a classic soft rose” that I think is perfect for summer, and Eve is my everyday go-to from The Nudes Collection. RMS describes Eve as “a natural rosy-red nude”, wrong; it’s a pink-nude. In spite of RMS’ terrible color descriptions, I think the Legendary Serum Lipsticks are the bomb. Sadly, they just had their BOGO sale on these fab serum lipsticks that are regularly priced at $36. Hopefully, they’ll have another sale soon.

Wayne Goss The Luxury Cream Lipstick Satin Finish

Although Goss’ makeup brushes are beautiful, I think his Luxury Cream Lipsticks in a Satin finish are even better. They are a creamy, smooth, not-quite-completely opaque formula that looks unique on every person depending on the shade of their lips. I have two shades, Lily, a neutral pink-nude shade that Goss describes as “a muted rose pink”, and Carnation, a “deep balanced mauve” that I think is redder than mauve. I wear Lily the most because it’s a terrific everyday shade. The 18 shades are sold on Beautylish.com for $28, and if you’re in the UK or EU, on the Wayne Goss website.

Two Discontinued Faves

Milani Power Lip Lasting & Moisturizing Gloss Stain: IMHO, Milani Power Lip was the best lip formula in the entire world! Why it was discontinued several years ago I will never understand. Boo. I managed to get my hands on Milani Power Lip in pink shade Macaron a couple of years ago on Amazon. Sadly, the moisturizing, opaque, non-wandering gloss is becoming dried out, but I can still occasionally wear it. Sad that it is no more 😥

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in shade 230 Coral Garden: I hate to admit that this fantastic lipstick from Rimmel (an English brand that I don’t see in the US as often as I used to) Moisture Renew collection has got to be about 10 years old. It must have preservatives in it because its bullet is still perfect and its formula seems almost brand new, though I have only about 0.66 inch left after all this time. The Moisture Renew line now consists only of a Clear Lip Liner for $4.99 that seems like a bargain. The bullet lipsticks have been replaced with the Lasting Finish collection that might be worth a try since it’s described as having a “smooth creamy texture” in a satin finish, price $4.97.

So these are and were my favorites. Which lipsticks are you rocking these days? Do tell.

I’m not a lipstick person. My lips are so small that I feel foolish wearing anything that is light and close to my lip shade. You’ve made some good choices. I think I’ll get that MAC to see if I get more use from my lipsticks.

    1. I thought you preferred light/pale lip color? Maybe I am wrong about that? Do you wear glosses? How about lipliner to enhance the size of your lips? (PS I never noticed in photos that your lips are small!)
