NOTD: Blue Sparkles Mani Inspired by Shanghai Tang Memories

Several years ago, whenever I went to New York, I always visited one of my favorite stores, Shanghai Tang on Madison Avenue. Shanghai Tang is a high-end Chinese clothing, accessories and decor store started by Sir David Tang, that was billed as the first Chinese international fashion and luxury company.

They even had the most colorful and eye-catching shopping bags. Unfortunately, the New York store closed a couple of years ago, boo hoo, though you can still buy online through their website. Luckily, I bought quite a few timeless pieces that I’m glad I own, including a silk mandarin- collar blue blouse emblazoned with a waving Chairman Mao print. It’s priceless.

Another favorite is a pale blue jersey, mandarin-collar zippered blouse, embroidered and hand-beaded with turquoise beads and sequins. It’s a unique piece. Although it has a lot of bling, it’s not really dressy, but something I wear with jeans.

The turquoise beads on the blue background inspired my NOTD (nail of the day).

After my usual Revlon ColorStay Topcoat, I applied one layer of Zoya Blu, a baby blue cream that I reviewed a few weeks ago. Last weekend, I picked up a gorgeous teal topper made up of blue, green and silver glitter from Milani, Teal, on clearance at CVS for 50% off, so it cost me about $3. It is a beauty.

I applied 3 thin coats of Teal because I wanted a lot of bling. The mani has lasted an entire week with only a tiny bit of tip wear, and that’s because I was gardening.

I love these two polishes together, and apparently, a lot of other people do too! I’ve gotten compliments constantly on this combo. And they are just perfect with my Shanghai Tang top!

the nail polishes are both gorgeous shades

    1. I think so too, Betzy. I love the Teal glitter topper

  25. Fabulous nail idea! I may give this a try as I have Sally Hansens Mermaid’s Tale (similar to Milani’s teal). I don’t really love the SH Mermaid polish, but it may look really nice over a white base.

    Monica.

    1. I’ll bet it will, Monica! I used a baby blue background, Zoya Blu, but white would look great too, I’m sure 🙂

  26. Ah, ic .. the Zoya Blu looks a bit white on my screen. The glitters in the SH mermaid’s tale float in a blue-ish liquid, so I’m sure the effect will be similar with a white base – Oh, I’m so curious to try this out now 🙂

    1. I think it would look great with a white base too, Monica. Do a post on it so I can see it!!??
