Shopping Local at Walgreens/CVS
When picking up a prescription at CVS a week or so ago, I noticed they were putting up an end aisle display of Olive and June Nails products. I was a little bit surprised that it took so long for O&J to show up at CVS since, as I’m sure you already know, they have been at Target for several years as well as at Walgreens for at least a couple of years. Although my local CVS didn’t have their display ready to go yet, they did have a few random bottles amongst a mélange of nail polish bottles from different brands. I was curious about the price of the Olive and June Long Lasting Polish at CVS, and like other products at CVS, the on-shelf price was more expensive, around $12 or $13. The single SKU wasn’t a color I needed, so I continued on. However, I looked online tonight, and Olive and June Long Wearing polish was listed as $9.99.
A few days later, I went to Walgreens to return a package for FEDEX to pickup. Afterwards, I strolled through the beauty area and stopped at the Olive and June display. There was a BOGO 50% off deal going on, and a couple of the Quick Dry shades called to me. They were priced at $8.49 each, so I got the two for $12.74. The Long Lasting polishes were regularly priced at $9.99.
So at $9.99 for Long Lasting and $8.49 for Quick Dry, they’re a decent buy vs. O&J’s prices on the website, $9 and $7.50, and certainly more convenient. I usually buy from Olive and June’s website and wait for 2-3 weeks for delivery. Since I’m not an O&J member (cost for membership is $40/year), I have to pay shipping and the privilege of waiting a couple of weeks or more for them. If I don’t need all of O&J’s most recent shade launches, picking up what I need at the local pharmacy makes more sense for me than I expected.
Olive and June Quick Dry Polish
The Quick Dry shades I picked up were Primrose and Berries.
Primrose
Primrose is a shade like so many I already own. A dusty pink-mauve or as O&J describes it, “a warm rosey pink”. Actually, it is very similar to Olive and June Long Lasting shade LD. For me, it’s what I consider an everyday “neutral”ish shade.
Berries
Berries was a bit of a positive surprise. In the bottle, it looked like a fun pink/red summer color. After I applied it and it dried, it’s a jelly raspberry shade with a blue shift, or as O&J calls it: sheer iridescent raspberry. It requires 2-3 coats. I really love the color! Unfortunately, my camera doesn’t do it justice.
How Do They Wear?
Since O&J’s Quick Dry line was introduced, I have bought at least a dozen or so. They dry in about 1-2 minutes. I follow up with their Quick Dry Top Coat.
O&J says that Quick Dry is supposed to last about up to 5 days without chipping. Often they might last me about 5 days if I reapply Quick Dry Top Coat every night. Perhaps because I’ve been so busy the past couple of weeks with some gardening, cooking and washing dishes without wearing gloves, the two new shades haven’t come close to lasting 5 days. The color recedes from the tips of some of my nails. In fact, you can see it on some of my nails in the Primrose photo after 24 hours. Oh well. They’re both fun to wear for however long. And they’re still worth the $12.74 for two.
CVS is where I shop. I often get a 40% off one item coupon so I’ll definitely look for the brand. I have RX to pick up so this will make the trip more exciting.
Are you still getting 40% off coupons from CVS, Marcia? Several months ago, they stopped giving me those 40% off coupons and now if I’m lucky, I get one for 30% off from time to time. Mostly I only get 20% off, boo. But any coupon is better than nothing, lol!
