During the Paula’s Choice 40% off Anniversary Sale before Memorial Day when I shopped the brand for two of my staple products, I took advantage of the sale and bought a couple of travel size products I had been curious about. The second product I bought I need to use for a longer period of time before reporting on it. But I know for sure that I love the first sample size product I chose, Paula’s Choice RESIST Skin Restoring Moisturizer with Broad Spectrum SPF 50.
For a number of years, I used Paula’s Choice Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50, but even though it had “Hydrating” in its name, it just wasn’t hydrating enough for my dry, mature skin. Although when I was younger, it was fine, but as the years passed, I had to use a moisturizer first and then apply Youth-Extending Fluid for the sun protection. No, that no longer made sense for me.
RESIST Skin Restoring Moisturizer SPF 50
Instead, Paula’s Choice Skin Restoring Moisturizer SPF 50 does the job beautifully for my skin type now. It’s a one-and-done product that’s perfect for dry skin. The off-white gel-cream has a silky texture, goes on smoothly, and is non-greasy as it quickly sinks into my skin and disappears. Although Paula’s Choice describes the finish as “dewy”, I find it to be optimally hydrating with an almost matte finish. Plus, it’s a terrific moisturizer with sunscreen to wear under foundation because it doesn’t pill.
Key ingredients in this moisturizer include: glycerin, shea butter, aloe vera, allantoin, and others for hydration, dimethicone for smoothness/silkiness, niacinamide for skin tone, Evening Primrose and fatty acids to strengthen the skin’s barrier, and antioxidants like Vitamin E, apple extract and coffee Arabica seed extract to protect skin from environmental stressors.
However, this is a chemical sunscreen rather than a mineral sunscreen. If you wish to avoid the typical chemical sunscreen ingredients, this is not for you. Paula’s Choice does have a mineral sunscreen, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Skin Restoring Moisturizer SPF 50 is fragrance-free. Oddly, a few reviewers on the Paula’s Choice website must be confused in describing the product as having a bad fragrance. It has no added fragrance at all, and the ingredients don’t seem to me and the vast majority of reviewers to smell like anything.
I bought the travel size Skin Restoring Moisturizer that contains 0.5 fl. oz. and is lasting me longer than I expected. It’s currently being sold for $14.40, 20% off. When I finish this portable tube, I plan to buy the full-size tube with 2 fl. oz. priced at $39. Frankly, I’m hoping that Paula’s Choice will have a July 4th sale so I can buy that larger size soon. If you have dry skin and use chemical sunscreens, I recommend Paula’s Choice Skin Restoring Moisturizer SPF 50 to you.
