I love berets. I’ve been wearing them since I was a kid, in spite of the itchy wool against my forehead.
Over the past weekend, Quince had a relatively rare sale. Their Mongolian Cashmere Beret was marked down to about $20 from the regular price of $29.90. I read through all the reviews, and customers remarked about how comfortable and “itchless” the cashmere berets were. Sold. Although the available colors were limited to neutrals (e.g. Black, Camel, Heather Gray and Navy), I decided to go for Navy. I was hoping they would have burgundy, red or purple, but I can always buy one in the future if those shades come back in stock.
Here’s Quince’s description of the product:
- Crafted from 100% Grade-A Mongolian cashmere
- 15.8 – 16.2 micron thickness, 12 gauge, 34-36mm fiber length creates a super soft hand feel
- Produced in BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) certified factories which aim to improve working conditions throughout the supply chain
- Cashmere is sourced from goats in Inner Mongolia.
Yesterday, my new beret arrived, and it was as described: comfortable and itchless. It also fits my head with no problem. Another wonderful benefit of the Quince beret is that it can fit over my ears if it’s really cold outside. Plus, it’s so soft.
While the quickie sale is now over, even at $29.90 the Mongolian Cashmere Beret from Quince is a steal. Snag one for yourself. I’m sure you’ll feel like “ooh, la la!” the minute you put it on!

I am so glad I found this post because I have a love-hate relationship with wool hats. I think they are so chic, but I usually end up with a red, itchy forehead within five minutes of putting one on. Knowing that this one is actually soft and itchless is a game changer. I might have to snag the camel one.
Cici, it is far less itchy than my other berets. I know there are some Quince stores out there somewhere, so it might be worth seeing if there are any in your area. Or you can always send it back if it doesn’t work for you. I also looked at the Camel color. If I had a brown or camel coat, I definitely would have snagged that one. It looks terrific on the model. xo
