Max Alexander, Fashion Designer
He’s everywhere on social media these days. I’m referring to 9 year old fashion designer, Max Alexander (in the photo above), who told his parents that he, at age 4, was a fashion designer. His mostly colorful, embellished clothing — in addition to his adorable presence and talents — has certainly gotten him noticed! I’ve been following him for at least the past 2 years.
In addition to the bespoke clothing that he sells (his first Paris couture show is happening in 2026!), he designs and sells clothing to regular customers here. Max Alexander is offering:
- satiny PJs
- silky caftans
- womens’ swimsuits and matching coverups
- plush vests
- puffer jackets
- a jacket for adults and kids in a happy face fabric
- Max Alexander T-shirts and baseball caps.
Winged Wonder Coat
This winter, he has introduced his first full-length coat, the Winged Wonder Coat in a burgundy plush fabric. Like his puffer jackets and plush vest, it is adorned on the back with angel wings, his logo, in gold sequins this time. Here’s the description of the garment on the Max Alexander Shop website:
“Crafted in luscious burgundy faux fur, this coat features a butter-yellow lining for comfort and contrast, and Max’s unmistakable signature: gold sequin angel wings shimmering across the back. Every detail reflects his favorite colors and the feeling he wants the wearer to have — warm, confident, and unstoppable.
This coat isn’t just outerwear.
It’s a reminder to dream big and fly high — wherever life takes you.

So of course, I couldn’t resist. Jeff offered to give the coat to me for Hanukkah. I was psyched.
Because the coat is new, it had to be pre-ordered so that it would arrive during the winter. I ordered my Winged Wonder Coat on November 20. I had a difficult time trying to figure out what size to order. A couple of years ago when his puffer jacket was introduced, prospective purchasers were told to order a smaller size than they usually would because it ran large. Other items, like the Winged Wonder Coat, provide measurements in inches for each size. Sizes run from XS-4XL. The measurements included the Chest, the Front length, and the Sleeve length. Since the Chest was the only measurement linked to real sizing, I checked my measurements and determined that I should order my usual size Medium.
I placed my order online, and the website said that the order would ship in 32 days. I was very excited to receive the coat, but truth be told, I was also concerned. Previously, I have purchased coats online from Land’s End and LL Bean, but I had had experience with their sizing before and I knew I could always return or exchange the coats if they didn’t fit. Max Alexander clothing was new to me. Plus, my biggest concern was that they didn’t sell Petite size clothing, and I am 5 feet tall.
On Friday December 26. I received an email from USPS with updated tracking information letting me know my coat was arriving that day. In fact, Jeff and I made sure to be home in the late afternoon to monitor the delivery. I heard the mail truck deliver regular mail to my mailbox out by my driveway and then drive away. I told Jeff I thought it was strange that the mail person didn’t deliver my package to the front door because it wouldn’t fit in the mailbox. Weird and annoying.
I decided to go outside and wait till the mail truck came back around to deliver to the house across the street. After the mailman tried to hand me my neighbor’s mail (he was not my usual mailman), I told him that I lived across the street and he had already delivered to my mailbox. But I asked him where the package that the USPS told me was “out for delivery” was? He got out of the truck and opened the back, and there were only two packages in the back, and neither was for me.
I went home and told Jeff I was going to drive to the post office and see if the Postmaster was working (though I knew he would have had the day off). I was getting my coat and car keys to leave when I heard someone at my front door. The mailman was leaving a package for me. He didn’t say what happened, and I let it go. I assume either it had fallen in the truck or he delivered it to the wrong house. At any rate, here it was…finally!!
I opened the box, and was delighted to see that the coat came in a white cloth dustbag with the Max Alexander logo. How lovely! And when I took the coat out of the bag, it was gorgeous, plush and soooooo soft! The gold sequined wings on the bag were amazing.
Next, I tried on the coat. The moment of truth. Sadly, it was too small. I could close it with the snaps at the bust and the waist, though just barely, but I couldn’t snap the snap around my hips at all.
I tried to find a Customer Service phone number for Max Alexander, but there is none. Instead, there’s the dreaded “Contact form”. I filled it out with my information, and I hoped that someone might call me back. Sadly, no. I received an email back from an anonymous member of the Max Alexander Support Team. Unfortunately, the person who responded didn’t answer any of my questions. I had been considering exchanging the coat for a size Large, but though the Chest measurement was supposed to be 2 inches larger, I wasn’t sure if the hips would fit. Usually, if something doesn’t fit me, it’s because the bust is too small, not the hips. Plus, the sleeves in the Large would be a little longer, and they were already long for me in the Medium. It seemed too risky to exchange it without any idea of how long it would take for me to receive the other size, since the first one took more than a month to arrive. Regrettably, I knew I had to return the coat for a refund.
When I inquired via the Contact Form about Return and Exchange issues, the MA Support Team member told me to go to the website for instructions on sending the coat back. I just did that. I needed to get a code to begin the process. Next, I was told to provide a photo or video to ensure that the coat still had its original tags and wasn’t worn. I was shocked by that. Jeff had taken a couple of pix of me in the coat I would be returning, but they didn’t show the tags. I sent those photos anyway since I had already packed the coat back up.
The next step told me that they had received my return request, and if all was OK, I would received a return label within 2-3 days. Oh yes, after I had to wait more than a month to receive the coat I ordered, I had to return the coat by January 9, less than two weeks after I had received it. Hmm. Well, hopefully, I’ll get the return label, bring it to the post office this week, and eventually, get the money back that I paid over 5 weeks ago.
As you can tell, I’m very disappointed. The Winged Wonder Coat exceeded my expectations in terms of quality, and I definitely think it is worth the $179.99!

His FB posts drive me nuts. At first I thought it was so cute and I enjoyed them. Then I began feeling he was just too full of himself. I’m glad the quality is there and I’m sorry it doesn’t fit. It could have been a nice winter coat.
He’s 9 and a kid and is very similar to other child prodigies, so I’ll forgive him. I was surprised that the quality of the coat was so high. When I read on the website that it closed by snaps, I thought hmmm. These were the most amazing, high quality, brass snaps I have ever seen. The lining with the interior pocket with the brand above it was beautiful as well. Honestly, I was impressed. Just wish that their measurements fit my measurements, and I wish they had live customer service. It would have been the perfect winter coat to wear to Boston tomorrow when the temperature is supposed to be 23 degrees.
I have seen him all over social media, but I haven’t known anyone who’d ordered anything. I can’t imagine your disappointment when it was so wonderful but didn’t fit. Being a vertically challenged person myself, I know ordering a size up or down doesn’t always work out. I do hope the refund goes more quickly than the delivery. Thank you for the review, though!

Thanks Marsha for commiserating re: my Max Alexander coat. I did get my refund in a very timely manner. But now every time I see someone online in a photo wearing the Max Alexander coat, I feel so sad. Buying online is difficult to get the correct fit especially from a new brand
I just ordered one. If it’s too small I will still keep it to support this young man with big dreams. He will be as big as any other couture designer and I will have a priceless piece to hand down to my granddaughter. It is not just a jacket, it is a piece of art.
I truly hope the coat fits you, Alexandra! It definitely exceeded my expectations. I just couldn’t have it taking up room in my closet since I have a lot of other coats. I will buy something else from Max another time.
I really enjoyed this review because it highlights something every shopper experiences at some point—not every item that looks amazing online ends up being the right fit in real life. Your honest assessment was both helpful and relatable.
Thanks!
