Trying Out Harper Wilde

After wearing Bali bras for at least a couple of decades, I came to the conclusion that the quality that they used to be known for is no longer a given. Among the bras I bought from Bali over the past few years, some have stretched out, and with others the underwire bent in half. So I’ve been checking out other brands. Because I remain a fan of underwire, if you’re not feel free to pass this post by!

After subscribing to Savage x Fenty for at least a couple of years in the past, I decided to give them another try because I loved the bras I bought and still wear. However, in order to cater to their subscribers, their garments change all the time. As a result, I was never able to find the specific styles that had fit me well in the past. Nevertheless, at the end of the summer, I fell for their ad promoting a big sale, so I resubscribed. Of the 5 bras that I bought over two months, only one of them fit. I returned the other 4 which was not difficult, but I decided to unsubscribe because their current bras just don’t fit my mature body. Boo.

Lots of ads kept popping up online for new-to-me bra brands. Cuup. Harper Wilde. And others.

I wasn’t in a rush, so I waited for the pre-holiday sales. Harper Wilde won out. 

Harper Wilde 

Though I am going to be reviewing the one bra that I’ve tried from Harper Wilde so far, the brand is known especially for their super-comfortable-looking, wireless Bliss Bralette. Worth a look if a bralette is your preference.

They also sell their Base bras and the Base T-shirt bra (unlined and lightly lined), Base Strapless bra, Bliss Nursing bra, sports bras, and the ComfortMesh Plunge bra that I decided to go with. By and large, Harper Wilde’s color range focuses on neutral shades (skin tone) and black, but I chose Slate, a blue-gray shade. Their bra sizes generally range from 30-40 bands and A-G cups.

What primarily appealed to me about the ComfortMesh Plunge bra was the mesh fabric described as “Soft Sheer”. On me, I would say the fabric is translucent. It certainly is soft. It has a plunging neckline and the center piece between the cups is probably the only one that has ever fit me perfectly. I am also a big fan of the straps that are adjustable in the front, rather than in the back.

For me, the wide band in the so far feels a little tight even though I bought that same size, 36, that I’ve bought in every brand I’ve tried for several years. Also, the back band has three hooks and it is much wider than most of the bras I own. That said, it helps with posture and support. 

The tight band has a negative for me: my not-so-toned skin under my armpits seems to spill out above the band on my left side. It certainly reminds me that I need to do arm and chest exercises way more often than I do. Actually, I probably should have returned the bra and tried the 38. If I had purchased in a store, I certainly would have tried on a variety of sizes to see how they fit, but with online shopping, that’s not possible. In the past, Harper Wilde used to allow you to order 3 bras, and within 7 days, return any bras that didn’t suit you. Unfortunately, I didn’t see that offer online now.

In spite of the fact that the band is a little tight, the ComfortMesh Plunge bra is quite comfortable and lightweight. The regular price is $58, but I received 15% off because it was my first HW purchase. Shipping is free over $100.

Although I wash my Bali bras in the washing machine, I wash my Savage x Fenty bras by hand, and I will most likely hand wash my HW ComfortMesh bra as well.
