L’Oreal Voluminous Panorama Mascara

My favorite L’Oreal mascara was Voluminous Butterfly Intenza (reviewed here). It had a flared wand, and it gave me that winged look. I loved it. Of course, it was discontinued years ago.

A couple of weeks ago, a reader left a comment about one of the long-retired mascaras that was part of the L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly collection. She asked if I knew where to still buy it. I told her that it was discontinued about 10 years ago, and I wouldn’t buy any that I saw on Ebay or any of the other resale websites because they were way too old. 

She mentioned L’Oreal Voluminous Telescopic (a lengthening mascara), but she said she didn’t like it. She asked about L’Oreal Voluminous Panorama, but I told her I hadn’t tried it yet.

So when I had extra money from CVS as well as a discount, I decided to give Voluminous Panorama a try.

L’Oreal Voluminous Panorama Mascara 

Voluminous Panorama Mascara also has a flared wand. It is supposed to increase your lashes by 14x as well as give you a wide-eyed look. Sounds good to me.

Product Description

It comes in a wide gold tube that reminds me of the wide tube from Thrive Causemetics.

The wand doesn’t seem to have plastic teeth like my favorite from Voluminous Butterfly Intenza, but the bristles do flare out.

In my experience so far, the wand works pretty well in terms of separating lashes and evenly coating them. Because my eyes are downturned, the longer bristles at the end of the brush don’t work quite as well as they would on someone without downturned eyes. As a result, I need to go back with the tip of the wand to wingout my outer lashes and also to coat my lashes as the inner corner.

The formula is volumizing (I usually prefer lengthening), but I believe it’s actually both volumizing and lengthening. It doesn’t make my lashes look so thick like spider lashes, thank goodness, but they do look thicker than when I use Thrive Liquid Lash Extensions.

My Experience So Far

Although Voluminous Panorama Mascara in Black  (#700) is quite different from the Black and Grey tubing mascaras from Thrive that I’ve been using almost exclusively for the past 2-3 years, I like the L’Oreal Panorama. The wand is easy to use. Although the formula isn’t supposed to clump, I found that a couple of my lashes stick together from time to time. Also, because the formula is thicker than I’m used to, I often have a dot of mascara on my lower lashes. Nevertheless, I think if I looked in the mirror more carefully, I could correct these issues.

Throughout the day, it doesn’t flake or smudge unless your eyes water. I got a bug in my eye when I was outdoors today, and my eyes watered. As a result, I had one tiny smudge from my lower lashes near the inner corner from trying to get the bug out and watering eyes. Not bad considering. 

I would say my lashes look thicker and longer. Because of the volumizing formula, I would describe the look as more dramatic than my regular look with the tubing mascara from Thrive where I stop after a couple of coats.

I have a hard time capturing a lash look with my camera, but here goes:

Although I don’t prefer L’Oreal Voluminous Panorama Mascara to my old fave Voluminous Butterfly Intenza nor do I prefer it to Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions, it is a good mascara especially for the price. BTW, it’s washable.

Do not shop at CVS unless you have no other choice. Because I had so much cash back as well as a 30% coupon, I ended up paying about $10 for the L’Oreal Voluminous Panorama Mascara. The price in store was $17.69, a ridiculously expensive price for a drugstore mascara. When I looked up where to buy the mascara, I saw the following:

• Ulta Beauty: on sale with coupon for $12.49
• Walmart: $12.97
• Target: $12.99
• CVS.com: $15.99

So I have no idea why the CVS in my little town charges about $5 more than everywhere else. Grrr.

At less than $13, I would say that L’Oreal Voluminous Panorama is well worth trying. In addition to Black, it comes in several shades:

• brown
• navy
• burgundy
• brown black
• black
• blackest black.
