New Sunnies for Spring from goodr

Somehow I managed to lose my favorite sunglasses just as the sun has started getting stronger. I’ve looked everywhere for my Knockaround “On the Rocks” sunnies from the Paso Robles collection (reviewed here). But now it’s been at least 3 weeks since they disappeared, so I’ve given up. Knockaround is still around, and they do still sell “On the Rocks”. Of course, their “Glossy Blonde Tortoise Shell/Amber“, also part of the Paso Robles collection, is calling my name. Maybe they’ll be next.

But in the meantime, I forgot that I had a pair of sunnies that I bought almost a year ago while we were in North Carolina. The brand, goodr, is everywhere these days, and seemingly, the controversy about their misguided marketing back in 2018-2019 has mostly faded from memory. I bought my goodr sunglasses at a discount shoe store outside of Asheville whose name I forgot.

goodr sunglasses are grouped by the shape of the lenses. Mine are from the “round” lens collection, Circle G, and I have to laugh because the name of mine are “Influencers Pay Double“. Here’s their description:

I love the pink frames and the orange/pink mirror lenses, but if that look is not for you, that style alone has 17 other options!

The performance aspect of the sunglasses is really quite impressive.  The glasses feel like they weigh nothing. And they truly are “no bounce”. Though I’m not really jogging any longer because my back has finally given out after 40 years of running, I’m still fast walking and hiking, and goodr sunglasses are terrific for that.

The frame and lenses are the most lightweight glasses I have ever tried.  Frankly, I don’t exactly know what the material is that the frames are made of, but they’re a soft-ish, translucent pink “plastic”? The lenses are almost impossibly thin though here are the layers contained within the lenses.

The mirrored lenses, (not my typical choice), actually reduce glare, something I didn’t know. What I am glad to know is that the lenses provide UV400 protection.

goodr frames come in 3 sizes: small, medium and bigger. “Influencers Pay Double” is a small size frame that’s perfect for me, although in the photo below they look big! Truly, there is no slipping down my nose.  The width of the frame is 137mm. Each style gives you the exact measurements for each key part of the frame.

On the website, the Influencers Pay Double style is priced at $30. At the discount store we stopped at in NC, I paid $29.97, and I guess that store may be a bit suspect because the pricing label said $40 marked down to $29.97. Hmmm.

goodr sunglasses come with a 1 year warranty, and you have 30 days to return glasses bought through the goodr website. I’m really happy with mine!

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day was yesterday (or today as I write this post), so I wish you a belated Happy International Women’s Day. While it’s wonderful to pay homage to the important women in our lives as well as those women now and throughout history who have lived exemplary, accomplished and brave lives, it’s kind of sad that a majority of the population needs a day to be celebrated, but there it is. And it’s especially sad during a time when women’s rights are under threat. Hope you had a moment or two to reflect on women’s accomplishments at home and in the world, women known to you personally or known to all of us through their deeds.

On International Women’s Day, I remember Mary Wollstonecraft, an early British feminist (and mother of Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein), who in her Vindication of the Rights of Woman in 1792 said, “I do not wish women to have power over men, but over themselves.” And today, I couldn’t agree more.
