My friend, Gabrielle, a scent lover, recommended the fragrance house, Maison Louis Marie, to me. She mentioned that it is long-wearing and has great projection.
Because I’ve been finding that, though I can definitely smell perfumes, I quickly develop olfactory fatigue. I’m not sure if I have a sinus infection or something else, but it makes me sad. However, I’m not giving up!
When I noticed that Ipsy was selling samples of Maison Louis Marie as Add-ons, I jumped at the chance to try two of their fragrances in sample sizes for less money. I ordered:
- No. 14 Icila: 3 ml/0.1 fl. oz. of perfume oil in a mini-bottle with a rollerball
- No. 15 Vanille Infinie EDP in a sample spray vial containing 1.5 ml/0.05 fl. oz.
No. 14 Icila Perfume Oil
Icila‘s key notes are jasmine, dark plum and vanilla flower. The fragrance is perfect for spring and summer. Although Icila isn’t the usual type of scent that I gravitate toward, it’s a wonderful, youthful, floral/fruity fragrance. The accords are:
- Top Notes: Ruby Pamplemousse, Mandarin Leaf, Jasmine
- Middle Notes: Bulgarian Rose, Dark Plum, Osmanthus
- Base Notes: Patchouli, Vanilla Flower, Sakura Blossom
Here’s what Maison Louis Marie has to say about Icila:
“Icila is a warm floral inspired by the French word ici — “here” — a reminder to savor the present. This radiant scent opens with bright notes of ruby pamplemousse, mandarin leaf, and jasmine. At its heart, dark plum and golden nectar unfold over vanilla flower and sakura blossom, evoking the act of grounding and growing at once. The base lingers with warm woods and soft florals, leaving a shimmering trail — a fragrant meditation on presence, wrapped in quiet radiance. “
Perhaps because I got the perfume oil, it does seem longer-lasting on me than most scents. I’m enjoying wearing it especially during the past two hot “summer” days in May!
I paid $5 for this perfume oil sample through Ipsy. The regular price is $17. Each of Maison’s scents comes in a complete collection: perfume oil, eau de parfum, hand cream, body and hand wash, body oil, body lotion, and home diffuser.
No. 15 Vanille Infinie EDP
Vanille Infinie is Maison Louis Marie’s newest scent that the house describes as “delicate vanilla meets citron with a wink”. The notes are citron, sugared amber, and vanilla flower. To me, it is reminiscent of other vanilla fragrances that I have tried: a sweet gourmand scent. I would describe No. 15 as a Christmas-y scent, like sugar cookies without the spice usually associated with the holiday.
The accords are:
- Top Notes: Citron, Evening Jasmine Bloom
- Middle Notes: Heliotrope petals, Tonka Bean, Sugared Amber
- Base Notes: Cashmere Oud, Vanilla Flower, Cloud Musk
It’s a heavier fragrance than No. 14 that can be worn for daytime or evening.
Although Vanille Infinie is too sweet for me, I think that true vanilla lovers would adore this one. Vanille Infinie comes in EDP, perfume oil, and candle.
Final Thoughts
I’m glad I had an opportunity to affordably try these two newest scents from Maison Louis Marie. Based on these two fragrances and the descriptions of their other scent offerings, I would describe Maison Louis Marie as a modern, youthful brand that emphasizes classic notes as well as the fruity notes that have been popular for the past decade or so. The fact that they make perfume oils is a real positive for me.
The scents are clean, cruelty-free, and some are vegan.
I’m going to head for Sephora one of these days and sniff/sample their earlier scents to see if I find a keeper.
