During a surprisingly warm Saturday night about a month ago, Jeff and I decided to light up the Solo Stove and enjoy the stars. We had just brought out the garden bench and we moved it closer to the fire so we’d feel a little warmer.
Just my luck when a log shot out a bunch of embers and managed to hit me, not Jeff, just me. Boo.
The embers managed to land on a relatively new cotton yoga top with rolled neck, sleeves and bottom that I bought in Maine when we visited my friends who live near Bar Harbor. My cozy and comfortable CMC by Color Me Cotton top ended up with a good sized burn mark and hole in the front.
A few weeks passed, but I was still annoyed about ruining my top. Finally, it occurred to me that I should patch it, since the hole is in the middle of the front toward the bottom. and wear it. I didn’t think my embroidery skills were good enough to do the repair, so I went to Etsy and searched for iron-on patches. I discovered the shop “Finally Home” that had loads of patches. I bought two different options:
- a round patch with flowers that included the color of the top’s fabric
- three blueberries and a couple of green leaves.
The patches arrived from Germany this week. Either patch would have worked. I expected to go with the round floral patch, but though the round shape matched the button and the turquoise flowers matched the fabric of the top.
But I fell for the blueberries instead. I think the blueberries look pretty darn cute.
I ironed on the blueberry patch, and I hope it will stay on! It required a lot longer than 15-20 seconds of holding the iron on the patch as recommended by the instructions, but it worked after a few minutes. I like it! $4.99 and my top is saved 🙂

Cute and cozy-looking top! The blueberries look like they were there all along 🙂
Thank you, thank you xoxo
Great idea. No one will ever know.
Thank you!
The blueberries are cute as heck, look intentional, and have now made your top a one of a kind piece of bespoke couture!
Thank you, Gabrielle 😀 I love that: “one of a kind piece of bespoke couture”!
