During the winter, I wrote about beef tallow having a moment. A few weeks later, I saw a jumbo size tub of tallow for sale at Costco, so I really knew it wasn’t a super brief moment if it hit Costco’s shelves.
When I wrote about beef tallow, I hadn’t tried any products that included tallow among its ingredients. I was just curious about it. But over the past couple of months, I’ve been sampling soaps that are part of the Tallow Soaps Discovery Set from Stone and Spear Tallow, the makers of 100% tallow soaps and skincare products.
Each sample lasts me for about a month. So far, I have tried two of their soaps in the sample set I received:
- Vanilla & Orange Moisturizing Body Soap: a deep brown colored soap that has a tantalizing aroma of vanilla and orange. It cleans gently and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. I liked it! The only negative for me is the brown color that drips down my white shower stall that requires me to clean the trail when I’m finished. The ingredients are: saponified grass-fed beef tallow, coconut oil, natural essential oils of orange and vanilla. Not sure where the brown color comes from?
- Hand & Body Soap: I’m still using the white Hand & Body Soap, and I prefer the white color. The scent is supposed to be Eucalyptus Mint, but truth be told, it doesn’t have a noticeable scent, at least to me. Like the Moisturizing Body Soap, it lathers well and doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped, just clean. I like it! The ingredients are: saponified grass-fed beef tallow, natural essential oils of peppermint and eucalyptus.
So far, the only difference between the two soaps are the essential oil ingredients, and they both perform very well for me. I just wish the Moisturizing Body Soap was white.
I still have 3 more soap samples to try out, so I will come back and report on those:
- Citrus Cedar Charcoal Soap
- Exfoliating Tropical Lavender Body Soap
- Exfoliating Facial Cleanser Soap
Since I have dry skin, I’m a little concerned about the Charcoal Soap and the Exfoliating Facial Cleanser Soap, but I’m game to give them a try!

The essential fatty acids in tallow help keep our skin healthy and hydrated by acting as a natural sealant that locks moisture into the skin. Tallow also helps reduce dryness, increase skin flexibility, and improve our protective skin barrier functioning.
Sounds good to me. I’m glad to learn that tallow imparts vitamins, omega 3s and hydrating choline. Happy to learn that tallow strengthens the skin barrier!
